Transfer case front seal gone

Tonight I noticed oil and lots of it. I will drive it to Ford but that is it, it's an unknown as to how much has hit the ground but it is on my driveway and fuel tank and diff and it's everywhere.

64,000km with a blown front transfer case seal is pretty average. Pretty pissed really.

Boys at Ford Service Centre in Clayton have come to the rescue again and it will be repaired on Monday.

Rear main has leaked forever and that is also due to be replaced. It also appears there could be a fault with the glow plug module as I'm getting fault codes for every glow plug circuit 1-5.

Thanks Stewart for the update.

Got the rear mains looking like it wants to leak as well. Found a lot of dark evaporated oil markings down there.

For the glow plugs, there is a recall which I posted and asked you on the TSB section. We are getting letters from ford already here in PH.

It's possible. Although I have 5 out of 5 glow plugs throwing errors. I find it hard to believe that all 5 died on the same day.

Anyway will point it out tomorrow when the transfer case seal gets sorted.

We do an update on TSB sometime over the next few weeks also.

The letter we got here points out that a PCM update is needed to sort out premature failure of glow plugs... Funny, because we rarely use glow plug here in PH cause of our HOT and HOTTER climate... LOL.

Anyway, good luck mate with the repairs.

Vehicle in today. Transfer case seal and rear main are being done.

Will probably have to book another time for all glow plugs to be replaced.

On a side note, I have a Wildtrak to drive for a few days. It's plated 12/17, it is so quiet engine wise in the cabin and I wonder if more sound proofing has been added as it's silly quiet. It has only done 2500km and it still pretty tight, it feels gutless really and has nothing over mine, I'm sure it will change as it gets more km's on it.

Actually I think the under bonnet sound proofing makes a difference. First models apart from Wildtrak's never had them so I might get one as its a 2 minute fit.

Seat leather is rubbish but the heated seats are a winner on a cold morning, my lower back was so happy. I feel a new mod coming on shortly and it may include these switches I have sitting around.

The "pre" DPF models have more go Stewart the DPF is restricted (flow) and are fitted with a smaller turbo and drink more fuel.

My mate tried that Stewart, he reckons it did two things, increased the inside cabin temp and made the engine quieter outside.

He installed some sound proofing gear under the dash, firewall, carpets and around the trans tunnel.

A lot of work but he got it quiet.

Maybe you can download a simple Decibel meter app and do a before/after engine valve cover insulator or a loaner wildtrak vs your xlt.

It's the sound proof lining attached too and under the bonnet Janemar. Everything else is the same.

Took it in Monday morning and they had it sorted by the end of the day. Picked it up on Tuesday though.

Front transfer seal done and rear main also done at the same time.

Next booking is for the 5 glow plugs and possibly some other goodies but I will see what comes of those first.
