Rear Main Seal

Hi guys, something is really bugging me the rear main seal on my 2018 Ranger 3.2 Auto with 8955km on the ODO is sweating oil between the gearbox and engine. It’s not much but it’s there, eventually it accumulates into a drop and makes a small mark on my garage floor every 2 months (keep in mind I Only drive the truck on weekends). There are no oil marks underneath the body on the chassis indicating a big spray or mess while driving. I 1st though it was oil dripping of the engine as I spilled a little oil at a top up on 5000km and they(Ford dealer) also spilled a lot when they serviced it on 8000km(annual service). But yesterday I climbed underneath it and cleaned the area and taped a microfiber cloth on the area to see how much it leaks while driving and went out and drove the **** out of the truck and there was only a very very small drop on the cloth when I was done. Should I be worried and should I do something I’m not keen on taking it into the dealer as I’m very full of **** when it comes to my ranger and don’t like other people touching it   .

I did see that it is a common issue and I checked on a few Rangers at work(we are a Ford approved structural repairer so many rangers standing around) and they all have oil in that area and some look a lot worse with oil marks as big as 10cm x 10cm. Mine literally just forms a drop on the tip of the gearbox.

Personally I would not be concerned and would leave as long as possibly or when close to warranty running out. Mine did this from 2000km and I had it done under warranty at 75000km or 4 months before the warranty expired.

I only would get it done now if you are going to sell it before warranty is up or if the drip is annoying you.

It is probably one of the most common issues.

Thanks, I think I will just keep monitoring it and if it stays as is I will leave it and I will probably sell it before the warranty runs out or get it fix just before it runs out. Thanks again I feel a bit more relaxed knowing it’s such a common thing

Update on this issue... it just stopped leaking on its own. No leak for a few months now.

No still just drive it on weekends or on road trips, it went for its first service in 2019 and after that it just stoped. I don’t think they replaced it as it was at ford for only 2-3 hours.
