Hi Everyone,

I've had my PX2 XLS since December 2017 and I'm just starting to get into some more mods. So far from stock, I've added a Ironman bulbar, Parkside towbar and a Carryboy canopy.

I'm looking at my dual battery options. I'm keen on not touching the smart alternator system (I'm generally keen on keeping the engine stock) which means going down the DCDC charger route. Just about to wire up an Anderson plug for the caravan I tow and put a DCDC charger in that. Just thinking about what I want to do with putting the battery in the tub for running a waeco.

I'm loving this ute.

Hi maf11.
Welcome aboard. I've got the same vehicle and just switched off the chimes and turned on the outside temp using forscan. Works a treat.

I got the dealer to switch dual battery mode on as I've got battery in the back and charge two batteries in the camper trailer on occassion.
Lots of conjecture out there about dcdc chargers and the need to keep state of charge level down on the vehicle battery. I've stuck a battery box in my tub with it's own dcdc charger (kickass setup) and another in the trailer. Seems to be working well.
Big thing to remember is to use heavy duty wiring to the van. It's a long way (remember to include - and + runs in calcs) and usually needs B&S 6 or heavier and it's own anderson plug.
A lot of people claim you don't need the dcdc, just switch to dual battery mode, but I figure with the long runs involved they help ensure regulated current. Also allow wiring for solar panels with mppt control. The plugs also allow me to switch batteries around pretty easily.
I found Collyn Rivers books very helpful.

Yeah, I love the truck, too. I think it just might be the best car I've ever owned (had a few 4x4s since the 70s)
Lots of good stuff on this site. For charging check out:
