Output Speed Sensor fault code P0721

Hi all,
I'm having an intermittent yellow spanner warning that pops up for a few seconds and throws up P0721 (output speed sensor (OSS) circuit range/performance). Sometimes the transmission goes into limp mode and after turning off the truck and restarting, all is ok again. This has happened about 5 times and no real pattern as to what makes it happen.
Today we did 325k through a mountain range and it didn't throw a fault and I had no issues up hills or with the shifting.
I suspect the OSS may be on the way out but I'm about 2500k away from home and towing the caravan in the QLD Outback
Has anyone replaced the OSS? it looks like it's an internal component and not a quick/easy job.
Any advice is appreciated.
