Here is how I got 2018 maps (version 18) in my 2018 PX2.

When I took the car for its first service in January 2019 they said there were no updates available for either Sync 3 or to the maps. So in August, with a different dealer they told me the same thing. I complained to the Service Manager, and pointed out that the maps were version 16 (2016?) and were way out of date. He checked and said no Sync updates were available and showed me his attempt to update the maps with USB. The display again said no updates available.

So, I contacted Ford Live Chat and they said an update to Sync as well as maps WERE available and the dealer should have done them. I could do the Sync update myself but the dealer needed to do the maps.

So, the solution ....

Create an account with Ford AU Owners and enter your VIN. You will find a link to update Sync. That will generate the update for your specific vehicle and you then download it to USB. From memory it was over 2GB and took a while. Then insert the USB into one of the USB sockets and it will automatically do the Sync update.

Then take the car to the dealer and the maps version 18 install will work. The dealer said they are from February 2018.

I still have an issue with Auto Updates repeatedly trying to do a further update so I have just turned off Auto Update, and will have a further try when 2019 maps are available.

I am going to have a whinge,
After trying to take me thru the center of Springvale crematorium, down a road that does not exist, twice and finally today along a freeway, then to exit around 3 round abouts, continue back the way i came etc, etc ,etc.I have given up on this useless piece of sh1t. Am reverting to Google maps
One member paid $80 for an update, think he may have been better using the money to buy a decent GPS
I am now going to bed to have a sook

Just had my MY19 Ranger in for service and asked for Maps update. Was told that it was already up to date even though it is showing 1.16.
I created a profile on Ford Owners and it says that the Sync is up to date already.

What else to do?

They probably o not have the correct USB. The USB stick they have will have version 3.0 software so it will not update as nothing to update. I have not seen map updates for MY19 Sync 3.3 vehicles past ANZ118 as yet and is what i currently use.

Go to another dealer or keep hounding them.

It most likely says it is up to date because it is already running the latest 3.3 version. Maps cannot be updated on the owners site, dealer only.

Interesting you said ANZ116 which is what I assume you are saying? As MY19 never came with 116.

Settings, General, About Sync. Check software version and scroll down for map version.

Definitely ANZ 116
Sync 3 v3.3, Build 18351.

Actually my car maybe MY18 as I bought it in January last year. It is PX3.

If they have the correct install USB then it would have a later 3.3 build and 118 maps. I believe that they are using a 3.0 stick and it is not compatible.

Had my 2017 XLT Ford Ranger PX2 serviced today (60K) by my local Ford dealer. I specifically asked them to update my maps from ANZ 1.15 to the latest version. $575 later, no map update. I was told I had the latest version and he can only go off what their computer says.
My Ranger is a MY17 with SYNC 3.0 Build 19205.
I don't know if there is a difference with maps between SYNC Ver 3.0 and SYNC Ver 3.3 but the loan car (Ranger) I had was a MY19 running SYNC Ver 3.3 and ANZ 1.17 maps.

To add salt to the wound, when I dropped the car off, a lady waiting for Ford to open informed me I had a blown low beam light bulb. I forgot to tell them and you guessed it, despite the service report stating they checked all lights etc, I still have a blown low beam. Would understand if they noted it in the report but nothing.
Question is, if they can't find or don't check for a blown bulb, what else didn't they do or do correctly.

Just FYI, I have a '17 XLT and my maps are 1.16 from factory. I tried to get the dealer to update last service, but got the run around. I'll be pushing harder next time!

I know Sync v3.0 maps are at 1.18, so keep trying. I'd certainly query them about missing the dud light since they claimed they checked them.

I also noted on the Ford Owners web site that map updates are free for 7 years provided you have the car serviced regularly by Ford.

For both post above.

Latest maps for 3.0 are ANZ119
Lastest maps for 3.2/3.3/3.4 are ANZ118

It does not mean the dealer has the correct USB sticks with these maps, they are not interchangeable either.

Most map files on Fords server are corrupt at the moment anyway so chance is if they try this way it will fail anyway.

Thanks Stewart,
So where does that leave me with respect to a map update?
I was thinking perhaps I should try to revert back to SYNC 3 Ver 2.X and see if the dealer could upgrade to Ver 3.0 which would hopefully include map update.
But as you pointed out, if the Ford server is corrupt, what chance has a dealer got, even if they are trying to do the right thing by the customer?

I would like to get my maps updated as they don't show roadworks in the areas I drive that were completed 3 years ago.
I will be having a chat with the dealer on Monday as missing a simple thing like a blown bulb when they state they have checked them puts a question in my mind to doubt if some of the other things were checked as well.
Have been a member of the forum for over 2 years but only just starting to play with Forscan as the warranty on my Ranger is about to run out.

Thanks again for your input, it must take up a fair bit of your time.

My maps is still 1.16, but it wont be going back to ford unless it has a warranty issue and warranty ends soon.

I bought a Garmin for $100 years ago with free updates I can do online at any time and in general it is a better unit that the Ford has.

Not sure why ford has such a problem.

Ah yes... "lifetime free map updates". My TomTom had those. The free updates stopped after 5 years because that was the factory designated "lifetime" of the unit.

There's no such thing as a free lunch it would seem.

Is the map update process for Australia different than Europe? I updated my Sync 3 via USB and uploaded the confirmation file to the German Ford site. A few days later, I checked again for updates and saw a map update was available. I didn't see it before because I had not installed the latest Sync 3 update. I can't remember how long it took the map update to install, but I think I drove around for at least an hour before I noticed the update was complete.

My Garmin Nuvi 52 is probably ten years old. I just opened garmin express and there is full map update for Au/Nz there I can install.

Unlike the rest of the world we live at the bottom of the world and do not get access to map updates online. Dealer only.

Thanks Steve,
I followed your advice and downloaded the files from the Ford site. Had to do it twice because the first download zip package had corrupted files in it. The update only took about 20 minutes, but the report upload is certainly difficult to find (hint: go to the download link again and scroll down to find the upload report link).
After I had written a complaint email which mentioned the lack of software update I got a call a couple of days ago from the dealer service manager. He proceeded to tell me that they dont normally do software updates as part of a service because it is not required by Ford.
He invited me to come back and he will personally look into the update process.
I will mention to him that Ford explicitly state on their web page that:
.....scheduled servicing with a participating Ford Dealer will receive yearly map updates for up to 7 years1 (but no later than 30 September 2024).....
Should be interesting to hear his reaction.

Hi,

I had my MY17 ranger serviced yesterday in Geelong, I'm running sync 3.0 which is the latest version available for my car.

I was running ANZ115 maps and asked for them to be updated, they got done but only to ANZ116.

Not terribly fussed as I use android auto, but would have liked them to have installed the latest version, I live in a new estate (3 years old) which is just a paddock on my factory maps, may be a road now that they are up to ANZ119.

Cheers.

Update from my post of 15 Feb.
On the Friday night, I sent an email off to Ford asking them to confirm what the latest version of maps were available.
On Saturday 16 Feb I got the usual "Thank you for having your car serviced with xxxx Ford. We trust you are satisfied..."
I replied using the link provided (dealership manager) stating I wasn't happy and explained why.
08:20am on Monday I got a phone call from the dealership manager. After a short chat, I agreed to bring the vehicle back in on Friday 21 Feb.
On Wednesday I got a call from Ford customer service telling me they had spoken to the dealership. I explained I had also spoken to them and a return had been arranged.
Today (Friday 21 Feb) I took the vehicle in> They were very polite, the dealership manager dealt with me personally, gave me a loaner and said they would call when finished.
3 hours later, I got the phone call and went and picked up my car. They had sorted the issues of the blown bulb windscreen washer and updated the maps.
My vehicle is now loaded with ANZ 119 maps. Happy with the outcome but would have been happier if it had been done the first time as requested.
I have to give the dealership manager a thumbs up, no questions, no arguments, just bring it back we will fix it. He has earned my trust to go back for the 75K servicing.

Took the Ranger in today for the maps upgrade and all was done within a half hour. Maps now at ANZ119 and Synch 3.3 as before at 19052. Service Manager told me that he had only just got a bunch of USB sticks from Ford after a round of complaints from service managers at a recent Ford get-together.

I have a 2015 Everest Trend with SYNC 2 & the maps on an SD card. After yet another yearly service, they installed the same woefully out of date maps as last year, K4 - whatever that means? Ford Australia says that this is the dealers problem, The dealer simply appears to be providing what Ford are providing to them.

Does anyone know what the current map set should be, K4 or whatever, and what calendar year this may be related to?

Alternatively, does anyone know how to buy a recent map set for the 2015 Everest with SYNC 2?

I may be cynical, but I'm beginning to believe that the 7 years of free map upgrades Ford are providing may be one in the same, possibly 2013 map set, referred to in their version file as K4.

Region=ANZ
Version=K4
Map=20130228

Any suggested ways forward would be appreciated

Thanks

John

The date in the file means nothing. Last years maps also have an old date. K5 are the atest I have ever seen.

If you require them to be updated contact me and send the SD card for update. Else try other dealers.

Thanks AS82XLT & saeb

I went back to the dealer and they found the K5 map upgrade - USB upgrade disk had been lost in the bottom of a draw somewhere?

Thanks for your information & great to see that dealers are really on top of these mapping issues.

Good news - the K5 maps are much, much more up to date than the K4 maps.

Thanks again
