Hi Stewart

I'm keen to get rid of the (very) annoying driver door open chime on my Everest Trend.

From what I have read below FORSCAN / PC is the way to do this - I think I can follow your general instructions below, however I have the Bluetooth OBDLink - LX not the OBDLink - MX.

I see in your instructions that the SX model won't work - how about the LX?

Thanks

John

Hi John, I f you want to use bluetooth then you will need to upgrade to the black MX. Unfortunately the SX LX are not fully compatible with these vehicles.

Unless I'm having a blonde moment and cant see what's in front of me - is there a way to load a previous configuration ???

I took a backup (BCM) when I got the car... I was just trying to revert back to those setting... but the best I could figure was to open the backup files and read through line by line and manually make the changes - surely there's gotta be an easier way...

You can reload the data from your backup file.

You would have pressed save and there is another button load, sure they are named that. Not looking at the moment.

Basics are you save or load the asbuilt.

Hi Stewart,

I have bought this type cable to have a play around with my Ranger. Forscan is saying it doesn’t recognise the vehicle. Have I bought the incorrect type cable?

PM me your Forscan log and I will pass it on to be looked at. It is called Forscan.log and will be located in a different directory depending on your operating system. You may have show hidden files and folders while searching.

Windows 7 will be in "drive":\Users\"username"\AppData\Roaming\FORScan\log

Please zip and PM.

All good Tim, they sit until I read them. I have passed your logs to the developers and will hopefully have a test version for you to try in a day or 2.

Hi Stewart,

First of all, thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and time with us all!

Unrelated to forscan, I have sent you an email through the 'Contact Us' tab on the site front page regarding your ARB frontier tank.

Kind regards,

Hi Guys, Im new to Forscan and have a few questions regarding programing options on my 2016 Ranger Limted pre face lift.
Number 1 -
I have some new H4 LED headlight bulbs from OPT7 lighting (FluxbeamX) that I would like to get working. I think this needs programming within the BCM. When I have tried to install them in the past it throws a dtc because of the voltage drop and then the bcm shuts down. Its ok once you clear the fault for about 15 secs then does the same and only gives me main beam no dipped beam.
In the BCM module i can see a sub option of headlights but when i click on it I only get 2 options. Option 1 - None and Option 2 - Halogen.
Number 2 -
I have changed from the factory 17" alloys and tyres to the Wildtrak 18" alloys with 265/65/18 BFG AT KO2's. I would like to change this in the settings to allow a better speedo reading
Number 3 -
Part of me wants to "american ize" the lights. I was thinking of having the amber turn signals in the mirrors on as marker lights. Is this possible?

I would also be interested to see what other options are available on my truck....
Any pointers or help would be greatly appreciated....
Cheers Guys

  • The faults can be from the incorrect resistance or overload on the circuit. I would check exactly which fault it is first. Chance is yours is resistance due to how the before and after h4 would work.

    To disable the incorrect resistance usually due to poor quality canbus emulators use;

Bulb Out Warning Front Disabled BCM 726-27-01 x0xx xxxx xxxx

Bulb Out Warning Rear Disabled BCM 726-27-02 xxxx xxxx x0xx

I will add this into my next lot of additions to Forscan as I had not submitted it yet.
  • Tyre choice change will be added in the data I submit next time. You will not get it spot on with those size tyres but change, BCM 726-12-01 to xxxx-0977-xxxx which is the biggest you can go without fault codes.
  • No doubt you could swap the wires around in the BCM to change the turn signals in marker lights. It would probably be straight forward to do also, I do not have time at the minute to go through the wiring diagrams but that is where I would start if I were you.

I have just upgraded my OBDLink from LX to MX version & downloaded FORScan with extended licence. I can now see all (most?) of the cars computer control units - Wow & thanks saeb for your input on behalf of the Australian Ranger / Everest owners :-)

Before I go changing anything, I'm just checking that using the preset (non asbuilt) menu options in FORScan should be pretty safe - without the need to backup the existing module status?

At the moment I'm looking at changing simple settings such as Dual Battery Mode, Silent Mode, Welcome lighting and the like.

It is a bit hard to glean what some of the settings may do?

Do things such as "Daytime running lamps menu " give you a new menu at the car operational level to select this feature?
I assume if this is the case it will not displace any other menus that are currently available?

What does the "Auto lamp delay menu" control - I looking at cutting down the time lights stay on when doors are closed? Perhaps not an issue if I enable "Silent Mode"?

Perhaps an editable sticky post that gives a description of these easily editable items in FORScan would be helpful for new programmers like myself - I'd certainly be happy to add descriptions of any items I find useful.

Cheers John

Hi John, you will see all modules.

Non asbuilt are safe. I have provided 99% of the changes so they are all good.

APIM is Sync2 only and not Sync3, this will be changed in future versions to pick up the correct version.

DRL on the IPC will give you an additional menu under lighting, you will need to enable all DRL options in the IPC and BCM for this to work.

Autolamp delay is under lighting menu and is the delay before the headlights turn off after locking the vehicle. I don't believe the menu was enabled in Everests as upper models had HID headlights so maybe there was an issue. Having a Trend you will be safe to enable.

At some point a sticky post could be made with further descriptions, unfortunately Forscan does not facilitate or give me anymore room to add better descriptions.

I've successfully made most of these changes - but I'm still a little confused on DRL's

I've enabled the DRL Menu in the IPC and
Allow all choices and the 3 IPC related options in the BCM
I've also set the DRL's to Front Fog Lamps

I now appear to have an additional lighting menu to toggle Daytime lights on/off but no apparent choice as to what DRL's are being used.
Also, the on/off switch appears to have no effect - I don't appear to have any DRL's on either way?

Is this what I should expect? I guess I was expecting to be able to choose between headlights / fog lights etc as the DRL's.

Also - Silent mode works well - battery use jumps to 2.5 Amp rather than 8+ Amp on rear door open. The lights stay off as do the smaller display screens - BUT the large center display still lights up with the driver door - any way to shut this one down as well?

Also^2 Would a menu item for dual battery mode be possible? As I take my dual battery out when not travelling - it would be good to easily toggle dual battery on & off at the car menu level.

Thanks

John

You will see in the BCM non asbuilt I change the name to Daytime Running Lights. I assume you are running the latest version?

Under on of these you will have the options of;

Disabled
Low Beam Lights
Front Fog Lights
Front Indicator Lights
Dedicated DRL H15
High Beam Lights
Dedicated DRL H15 and Low Beam Lights

Make your choice and apply then write.

All I can suggest for the Sync2 backlight is to try this change viewtopic.php?f=12&t=420&p=1275&hilit=startup#p1275 it should achieve what you want as there is no other way.

Menus cannot be added to the instrument cluster that do not currently exist in the firmware, so no the menu cannot be added.

Hi Stewart,

I've recently had a few issues with the fuel gauge.
The DTE alarm doesn't go off anymore and recently the car ran out of fuel when there was still a quarter of a tank showing.
The second one could be a fuel line or filter issue but I was surprised the alarm never went off the first time.

Could this be something to do with the DTE change?
Kind regards
Ryan

No, I have never had the issue nor has any of the 60 plus tanks that I have done. Low fuel alarm comes only from the float level/fuel gauge level. This is an analogue input from the sensor so nothing you could change should affect it.

What fuel tank do you have?
What have you set the fuel tank size too?
Where is the cluster gauge fuel level sitting at when you run out of fuel?
How many km's do you do before you see a change in the fuel gauge level - 200 to 300km more specific?
Flat ground or hilly?

Will wait for your input.

That is correct.

It is free and extended will be free while the software is going through development fazes which has been a very long time.

I have no idea when but the developers will eventually charge some type of licence fee for various options that may not have even appear in beta releases ei. module firmware updates etc. this is still work in progress. But I'm sure one day it will happen.

They can not give me a time frame on these changes although I'm fortunate enough to have 5 years licences. Time will tell with what they will do or won't do.

Never had it happen to any vehicle before. Feel free to send me your IPC asbuilt though and I will have a look at it. The fuel gauge is an analogue input and is read directly from the tank so it could also be possible the float has been bent wrong. It could well be sitting on the bottom where in reality it is bent enough to show fuel still in the tank, hence quarter tank and no alarm. Basically the gauge and DTE are seperate although DTE can look at the fuel level every 400km to make any long term adjustments.
