Another Cargo light question.

Forgive me if this has already been covered.

After studying the relevant circuit diagrams & reading other related posts, so far as i understand it the Cargo lamps are tied in with the mirror puddle lamps regarding operation. So, when you unlock the doors ect front/rear markers, mirror puddles & cargo lamps all come on together. Also, you can operate the cargo lamps with the dash switch (which also brings on the mirror puddles) but only with H/brake on, door open & ign off.
I have seen some posts, (not sure if they were talking about this generation of ranger) where people have stated that cargo lamps turn off once you reach 3mph or so. This would seem to suggest that in some instances the cargo lamps can be activated with ign on/engine running. Is it possible to program the BCM to allow this, or is it firmware related & not to be messed with? I am happy for my mirror puddles & cargo lamps to work together and at very low speed, but would love it if they could be operated with the truck running. For example, this would be very useful when backing or loading/unloading a trailer at night (would need some brighter LED's) but you get the idea.

P.S. Would just like to thank Stuart for all the hard work he has put in, figuring out all this stuff so that us mere mortals are able to set up our trucks how WE want not how FORD thinks we want!

It is not programmable.

Easiest way if not using mirror puddle lamps is to wire the switch to one of these and program as required. Use mode 4 with the vehicle button and relay if required.

I bought one of these at least 10 years ago now. https://www.ryda.com.au/aerpro-trigger- ... le-trigger

*Note, you will also need the programming cable USB-CAB.

Even if you do currently have puddle lamps also then cutting and wiring the switch to this device should have no impact on the existing puddle lamps if they are still required.

Ah right, I see. Thanks for the info, will probably hard wire the switch through a relay to do what i want then. Thanks for the reply.

You will still need a trigger module or a latching relay, the factory button is only momentary.

Also from memory it was easy to make the middle work as a negative trigger for an additional relay. Means adding additional switches to the same trigger circuit is very easy, so think additional switch in the tub if required and will both will trigger the same circuit.
