FM Radio Changing Channels

Hi Stewart,
When I listen to FM radio while travelling the radio changes channels by itself.
The screen doesn't change only the sound. After a few minutes it changes back to the selected channel but it is quite random as to when and for how long. My vehicle is going in for a service shortly so I mentioned it to the dealer and he said that the ranger he is driving does the same thing and that there is a setting that he could change to fix it. Me mentioned something about AF -Auto Frequency. Do you know what it may be so I can update it myself?

Cheers,

Rick.

Hey Rick,

Go to radio setting and try turning off the last 2 options. See pic.

1. Alternative frequency
2. DAB service link

I generally use DAB and have not had the issue that you have had. It may be changing once the signal quality drops below a certain threshold.

Make you to give us an update to whether this address the problem.

Had the same happen to me. Played with the settings first day I got the car and then the radio just started changing channel itself but the frequency on the screen didn’t change.......I turned off both those options and it stopped doing it.

Here is the official SSM

SSM 46942 - 2015-2017 Ranger and Everest Vehicles Equipped with Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) - Radio Stations Changing Autonomously
Some 2015-2017 Ranger and Everest vehicles equipped with DAB may experience a random switching of FM and DAB radio stations. Prior to normal diagnosis, dealersare advised to disable the “Alternative Frequency” setting for SYNC3 vehicles via Setting >> Radio >> Alternative frequency (OFF) and the “Service Linking” setting via Setting >> Radio >> Service linking (OFF), and for SYNC1 vehicles via Menu >> Audio Settings >> Altern frequency (OFF). It is advised dealers make these setting changes as part of the pre-delivery inspection to ensure a higher customer satisfaction level. If the above action does not resolve the condition, dealers are advised to proceed with normal diagnosis/repair. For additional information, refer to Workshop Manual (WSM) Section 415-00. SSM: 46942
