I've just changed over laptops and I'm having issues connecting to my OBDLink MX+ via FORScan.

The new laptop is running windows 11 through Parallels (its a Mac), the laptop is connected to the dongle and FORScan even recognises the dongle in the settings tab. When I go to connect I experience an extended 'connecting to ELM' period (a couple of minutes) before it fails.

I'm thinking potentially a driver issue or COMM port issue given windows 11 is arm based?

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue with windows 11 or have any suggestions for potential solutions?

The dongle is still connecting to my IOS devices just fine.

Do not have an answer but are you sure Windows 11 is arm based. As far a I'm aware it has not reached public consumption so you would basically be using insider builds at this stage. Also means support from anywhere at this stage would be non existent.

Would have to assume you are using latest MacBook with M1 processor.

Can only suggest to use a wired adaptor especially if programming, wireless adaptors are prone to connection issues and problematic programming and or corrupt programming.

You've hit the nail on the head, it is indeed a M1 Mac. Given the M1 architecture parallels are having to use the ARM version of windows 11 (which I believe was only released to the public very recently) with some fancy emulation going on in the background. This is actually the first issue I have run into running Parallels which is honestly surprising, I expected to have many more but everything else so far has been seamless. Traditionally I have always run a full windows install through bootcamp for these sorts of things but that is no longer an option.

I have seen a few posts on the FORScan forum itself from people with the same setup successfully FORScan on M1 Macs however they all seem to be using USB OBD connectors, perhaps its time that I make the switch.

I've been very impressed over the past year or so with my OBDLink MX+, noting that the forums are no longer recommending the generic ELM327 connectors what are your current recommendations and do you know of any that are USB-C compatible? Was thinking that the OBDLink EX might be a pretty safe bet for additional driver support?

Just use a USB C to A adaptor. They are pretty compact and can be left on the adaptor.

Those adaptors or mine, up to you. They are in the store if need be. Don't you generic elm327 as you will end up sending it back.
