No handsfree while bluetooth streaming

If a call comes in while I'm streaming through my phone via bluetooth, the stream stops, ringing is heard through the syn3 but when I answer, the call is only directed through the phone, not the sync 3. If I'm not streaming, say listening to the radio, all works fine. Any thoughts?

None at all, never streamed before. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

I play music off my phone a lot as I travel in areas with little radio reception and don't have a problem.

Phone is almost always connected via usb cable for charging, I don't know if that will make a difference.

I stream podcasts from my iPhone through my Sync3 via Bluetooth while I drive. When a call comes in, the Sync3 automatically pauses the streaming audio and waits for me to accept the call. At the same time, my locked iPhone display shows three options of handling the call. One is to take the call on the iPhone, and another is to take the call through the BT. I can't remember the third option, but at some point in time, I selected the BT option for handling calls, and never had to do anything after that. When the call ends, the streaming audio picks up a few seconds before it paused.

Since you don't indicate what type of phone you have, I'll assume it is an iPhone and the iOS is version 13.x. :)

Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Call Audio Routing. Select "Automatic" if it is not already selected. The next time you receive a call, check which option is showing on the phone and select the BT option.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S10. Haven't noticed any options on the phone when it rings as I just answer from the Sync screen. Not a good system that requires the phone to be handled to answer a hands free call. Next time it happens I'll have the phone were I can see it to see if options appear. Mine also resumes playing music after I end the call, which never takes place as I can't here the caller.

As you have the usb cable connected, are you streaming via Android Auto?

Sorry, Im playing music off my phone hard drive not streaming online, I dont stream internet or use android auto.

I have a basic samsung which does ask on connection to allow data transfer etc and also works when not connected by usb.

If you have a samsung I could try setting mine up to stream then call using my wifes phones to test it.

Phone is a Galaxy J2 pro,

I did not set up AA but streamed Roy & HG off the ABC Podcast website Via BT no cable connected, then had the wife phone me.

The hands free worked as per normal.

If you can stream off the ABC site as I did without using AA, and it works, then you know its AA?

If it still does not work then the phone/settings would appear to be the problem?

Thanks for the replies. I have noticed the sync unit occasionally tells me on start up that no bluetooth device is connected, yet the phone shows up in the sources. Got me thinking that maybe the phone is only connected as a media source and not handsfree. Will try out a few options and get back with observations.
