Putting a mini-tablet on the center of the dashboard

Has anybody purchased or concocted a way to carry a mini-tablet (Apple iPad mini) over the flat surface in the center of the dashboard? I would like to try something really simple: an angled surface velcroed to the dashboard, with the tablet velcroed in turn on the flat surface. Has anyone tried this or do you think it is a viable solution?

I know windscreen suction cups is the standard set up, but I do not like as as much because the good ones are expensive, obstructive and leave the device too exposed to the sun. The dashboard holder I am suggesting could be designed with a shield and shade to protect the device.

Thanks.

I use a tablet to monitor.
It sits in a piece of aluminium channel that is Velcroed to the console.
It works okay for me but it wouldn't stay there off road roughing.

Ploclip make a no drill bracket for above the Sync system on the XLT. I just had velco on the phone and tablet and they stayed there without any issues. Only problem I found with this mount is that in the very hot sun it would open up a little so could come loose.

There is also another name for the same product, they are also sold in Australia but I found Europe to be the cheapest place to buy them from.

Once I have my other mount 100% sorted I will look at doing one for the XLT that is specifically designed for pads in that location.

Thank you Stewart.

Do you know the difference between the "angled" and "centre versions? What do you use?

[Edit: I realised you said you use a ProClip and that brand may not do both versions. anyway, perhaps when you did your research you figured out what the difference is?]

These are the links to the two models I have found if anyone is interested:

ClicOn Centre: http://www.holdmyphone.com.au/centre-mount-67265.html
ClicOn Angled: http://www.holdmyphone.com.au/angled-mount-53086.html
ProClip: https://www.brodit.com/product.html?id= ... &year=2016

For anyone thinking of buying one: note they are vehicle-specific so check you select the correct one for model and MY.

Following your own mount design efforts Stewart; good luck with it and than you for doing it.

Jose

I have the both the brodit mounts. The one that fits the left side is angled towards the driver. The right side clip is not angled toward the driver as much.
As Steward has suggested purchase from over seas.

Tony.

Yes it was the Brodits I bought from Europe.

I only got the drivers one and with velcro it holds my 7 inch ipad.

This one http://www.holdmyphone.com.au/centre-mount-67265.html

What I would do in future is make one that clips in both sides. Basically a left and right version but with a panel in between and a small shelf on the bottom so the pad would sit flush and not fall off, even though it never did in the past.
