OBDLink MX+ and EX as per OEM Website - programming - confused

Hello,
I'm about to go on a long, remote trip, and I want to be able to clear codes as required (mainly limp mode, or anything that will get the car moving again). But the following points contradict slightly.
1. FORScan website recommends not using 'wireless' connection to send commands back to the car. FORScan.org also suggests the EX is better for configuration and programming functions. This leads me to get the EX.
2. OBDLink website recommends that the MX+ is the best model available and has superior functionality over the EX.
3. This thread - https://forscan.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6142 - suggests that the MX+ is ok for a certain level of configuration via bluetooth, but nothing complex.
My initial instinct is to go for the EX, and use an OTG adapter on my android just for monitoring. And if I need to send commands back, plug the EX into my laptop. This is just for clearing limp mode etc., and small things like dual battery mode, door alarms etc.
BUT, am I missing any major functionality provided by the MX+ as they indicate on the OEM website??
Thanks in advance for your patience.
