PX2 Ticking noise when accelerating

Hi guys,

I'm after some advice, my Ranger of late is making a ticking noise when I accelerate. It only does it every now and then. Its weird though... On start up - no noise, Idling - no noise, If I rev it - no noise but when I put it into gear and drive slowly there is a ticking sound. If I put my foot on the clutch the sounds stops, release the clutch and the ticking sounds is there again.
It only last for a very very short amount of time and only just after start up.
The sound is very similar to a stone in the tread.
I have read that people are saying its the third piston slop in the bore or low engine oil or pressure, injectors etc.
Why is the ticking sound only there when I drive accelerate? press the clutch in to coast and the noise stops?????

I keep the service regular, Oil is changed every 8-10K along with oil filter, fuel filter and air filter.
We do tow but its only 13ft and is around the 2.5T.

We are currently fulltime travelling on the road so can't afford and major dramas when remote.

2016 PX2 XLT 3.2ltr Manual
Only mods are Pre-filter, catch can and IDrive.

Cheers
Tony

Could it be related to the rear diff lock?

I suspect mine does this, auto XLT, but mine does it more on overrun…

Jack up the rear and turn the wheels. Also, check the diff lock is operating too.

Cheers, Dave

Is this the type writer tick? Does it sound loudest at the drivers wheel arch?
Is it intermittent and only when cold?
I have had this noise since the early days of ownership, being a mechanic myself I couldn't pip point it.
I took the vehicle to ford ( as it was still under warranty) they replaced the auto and yet the noise was still there.
I took it back to ford and they said its just a noise they make.
So after searching fb pages and forums forever I found a post that described the noise exactly and the poster stated he put a treatment in the engine oil and it fixed the issue.
Once again being a mechanic for 20+ years I am not much of a believer in "additives" but I went ahead and dropped a bottle of "Nulon Diesel Heavy Duty Engine Treatment " in with the next oil change.
To my joy and supprise the noise was virtually gone.
I service alot or bt's and rangers at my workshop and always listen for the noise, I,m guessing about half of them make the noise half of them don't.
Anyways hopefully this helps and works and someone else's ranger with the dreaded typewriter tick.
