Yes, thats as per the OME fitting instructions. Its due I believe to the odd design of the rear axle suspension where the right hand shock is mounted on a bracket welded to the front of the axle and the left hand is on a bracker welded on the rear.
By the way, have your installer check the front shock rose joints, on the very early series of BP-51 suspensions these were prone to fail / wear -- I had mine changed to the later design rose joint which involved replacing both the front shocks -- this was carried out under their warranty of course.

So long as they are mounted on the rear of the shock, and protected from flying stones coming off the front wheels the location really should not matter.
Following our recent 14,000 km odyssey to WA returning via the Great Central Road, Oodnadatta Track and Cut Line Road I had no alternative but to replace all my rubber Ford OE brake lines with stainless steel braided lines as the OE ones had suffered from stone chips and I never went over 70 kph on any of them so its not just speed that can cause stone damage.
I'm now seriously thinking of fitting a full width urethane sheet "grader" fore of the ARB Fronteir fuel tank to protect the tank and rear suspension. I've fitted one on our off-road camper-trailer in front of the water tank after having to drop the tank to remove 2.5 kg of stones that were wedged between the alloy tank protection cover skin and the S/S tank.
