Battery charging / SoC

Hi Guys

I have an Everest MY16. It came with a crap battery from the factory which would regularly leave the car unable to start. After a bit of drama it was eventually swapped out by the dealer with a Century batt.

While I haven't had any starting issues with the new battery I have recently started monitoring SoC and 'AMPs in' via Torque Pro. I have noticed that the battery rarely gets above 75% SoC and that the charge current seems to drop right away about 5 mins after inital start. Upon starting I see 50-60 amps for a brief period then it settles to about 2amps. The voltage appears to be 14.4v while the car is running (based from cig socket meter).

I have tried various dual battery settings via Forscan like disable, 70,80,100% but doesn't seem to change. I have also disconnected battery, done a maintenance charge via external charger, then reconnected and a BMS reset. SoC held around 90% for a good week then dropped back to <80%.

Is this 'normal' or do I again have some sort of battery issue? Or is this something else like TorquePro measuring wrong. I checked my PiDs from the list in here and is the same.

Maybe the Century battery is faulty, have it tested would be a start.

Batteries will lose their charge over time, I have mine 100% and after 10 days it may drop back to 93 - 95%, but miy battery is an AGM type.

Do you have a multimeter, check it with that as well.

Cold weather can also affect battery performance.

It all depends on the battery and chemistry. I regularly see 75% even with DBM, if the battery tests as good then its good.

50 to 60 amp current draw is quiet normal, also remember glow plugs suck pretty hard.

The people that consistently see 90 to 100% are generally running an AGM.

Hey all just a follow up. I ended up purchasing a SSB75TI and putting into the Everest. It seems night and day compared to previous batteries. I now see a lot more amperage being put into the battery and see SoC at 100% on each drive. I decided to drop the dual battery mode back to 95% and that seems be working well for me.
One thing I've now observed is the nature of 'smart charging' which seems to be charging on trottle off and then, depending on battery SoC, not charging when throttle applied. I monitor this via ODB and TorquePro.
Anyway very happy and the battery seems to be performing very well so far.

I have the same battery, no issues and works well
