Hi Guys
Have to replace the Glow Plugs in the near future. 3 of the 5 have shit themselves.
Those of you who have replaced them, is there a prefered brand?
The genuine ones don't seem to be that reliable, thinking about trying NGK.

Unless you have issues starting it then I wouldn't bother. Generally temps here don't get cold enough in any case. Puff of white smoke on startup is not the end of the world. Probably 80% of pre MY17 models I see have bad glow plugs due to old bad calibrations.
Use genuine and have the PCM calibration updated as you will have an early cal and that is what caused them to fail in the first place.

Thanks for the reply Stewart, I know they're not necessary but sometimes I start up in the shed and do a few things while warming up and the smell is shocking. I was thinking that glow plugs may help, I'm just pissed off that they went out 10,000k after I had the manifold off for a clean.

I am in the same situation. I have the Glow Plug #1 Open circuit DTC active, and occasionally get the "see manual spanner" illuminate on the dash. I have a custom ECU tune, so I don't know if I can go to Ford to get the TSB applied or not. I'm also wondering if it could be the battery running out of puff? It is occasionally doing weird things with SYNC and adaptive cruise. It's an an October 16 build PX2 XLT. If I replace the battery, I am thinking of not using an AGM, seeing as I have turned off the stop/start feature. I do like the fact that the factory battery will run the fridge for a weekend and still crank the engine easily. Well, it does when it is warm anyway.

Your spanner light will not be the glow plugs but another issue. I see vehicles with glow plug DTCs day in day out. Most being 1 or 2 plugs and on the odd occasion 4. From memory the glow plugs are not even set to throw a mil light.
If you have the TSB applied then your tune will be over written.
If your battery is older than 3 years then it is due for replacement. For all you know your SOC could be down to 50% and the vehicle may well start but could still be in poor condition.

Thanks Mate, The factory battery was at 440CCA so I replaced it. At 5 years old, I'm not upset about that at all. I have had the spanner light come on again twice since, but after a restart it clears and everything runs fine. It only happens when it is cold. I haven't seen any codes except the Glow Plug #1 open circuit at any time though.
