So I have a Ford Ranger Wildtrak 2018 (Sync 3, NZ variant) and want to remove the nanny state keyboard lockout and so far have been unsuccessful. I updated the APIM module as follows
7D0-02-01 5753 xxxx xxxx
After completely shutting down sync (getting out of the car and locking it) and then booting it backup again it comes up with a yellow warning saying "navigation fault", I also noted that the time was -10 hours which is consistent with a country or time-zone modification (which I assume is what this is).

I guess the good thing is reverting the APIM module and doing a factory sync3 reset (I had to do a factory reset for it to work again) fixes everything as before.

Does this modification only work for US/Canada?

Has anyone successfully bypassed this feature with sync3?

It would seem from reading the other posts there is no direct setting for this "anti-feature". I mean lets be honest, I think it is safe for my passenger to at least enter a destination by keyboard :D

This is for Sync2 only and is not supported on Sync3 whether AU,NZ,US or not. Changing this on a Sync3 can lead to other issues.

Change it back and leave alone. This is why Ford implemented voice control, love it or smash it.

One interesting find which will save time is; simply cycling the ignition by key doesn't reset sync3, which makes sense because accessories are still available (for a fixed period of time). What did work every time though was exiting the car and locking it by remote. That immediately powers off sync so when you get back in the car sync boots, at which point any changes you have made get picked up.

My MY17 Wildtrak with sync 3 has keyboard nav input while in motion from factory - am I just lucky, or should I be worried that there is something wrong with the system?

Don't do an update through Ford eg. maps and it will continue to function that way.
