Hi All

New to this so please forgive my ignorance.
Looking for a way of disabling the smart alternator on my 2020 XLT Ranger. I have an auxiliary lithium battery pack that charges from a DC-DC charger in the tray direct from the main battery. We only use it occasionally so was looking for the best option. Have read a lot about turning on dual battery mode using Forscan but there seems to be conflicting advise as to weather this is possible with Australian 2020 model rangers. Has anybody done this themselves on a 2020 Australian Ranger. If so could you please advise how you went about it and what devices you used.
Thank you in advance
Ken

Hi Ken
The Smart alternator can be disabled on your model
To do it yourself you will need a laptop running Windows
A licensed copy of Forscan installed
A dongle available from this suite.
wp/product/forscan-usb-dongle-windows-10-support/

Some Ford dealers will do it, some do it for free & some charge.... a lot
Ford call it "Enable Dual battery mode"

Depending on where you are someone may be able to do it for you.

My understanding is that the smart alternator can be disabled on 3.2l models, but not on 2.0l models.
I have a 2.0l 2020 Wildtrak and was told it couldn't be done.....however, by switching the lights on (ie putting them to on, not on auto), that overrides the "smart" alternator and gets it kicking out full charge to the batteries.
I assume the same would work on a 3.2l, and on an XLT, but it'll be a simple enough job to check.
