3.2 engine cutout while driving

Have a 2019 PX3 3.2.
The boss was driving this afternoon and the engine just died while traveling in traffic in an 80 zone (I'm told CC might have been on). She managed to pull over safely and the car behind managed to brake sufficiently not to hit. I've done a FORScan scan and a bunch of modules all complain about loss of comms to the ECM/PCM. The IPMA and RCM also logged a timestamp that correspond to the time the issue happened along with the 'loss of comms to ECM/TCM' error. The ABS module had a, U3013 - Control Module Input Power C Circuit / Open, logged but no timestamp.
The car restarted ok when tried with a powertrain (spanner) error and was driveable. The error cleared on the next restart.
In addition...
The car pulled a powertrain error last Sat. CTL-ALT-DEL fixed that after 2 starts. This generated a PCM pedal error (P2122) last Sat and another PCM pedal error (P2138) occurred when todays issue happened (both have freeze frame data). The car does have a pedal controller that I've now disconnected, but I can't imagine a pedal controller would generate a Power Cct error or cause the engine to stop.
Any ideas?.
(wiring over timing cover is not chaffed, if you were wondering)
