Hi, sorry, i did try a search, but couldn't find the answer i was looking for and please let me know which parts i have wrong.
So, as per the instruction manual somewhere, it stated that electrical components need to be earthed on the body, so as not not to interfere with the battery monitoring system.
I Also read somewhere that if 2 batteries are connected in parallel that they would never receive a full charge, effectively eliminating the ability to use a voltage sensing relay to connect the 2 batteries.
Ok, so i need to buy a DC/DC charger fine... but how do these things effect the winch wiring.
I was planning to install a 2nd battery, and run the winch off that, but im left wondering:

1. If i were to connect the winch direct to the main battery, should i just go Pos to Neg, as it is not a constant on device, and will likely pull more power when in use than the 'normal' earth strap could probably handle.
2. If i connect it to the 2nd battery, after the DC/DC charger, then i can see no problem going Straight across the battery, but will the charger keep power up to the battery, or will i be winching away, have the battery die, and then have to wait for ages for the charge to come back up again?

Also, where is everyone hiding the 2nd Battery in a dualcab PX2 with tub?

Thanks in advance.

Every winch manufacturer that I know of recommends a winch be wired directly to the main battery.

They draw heaps when pulling so it's also a good idea to leave the motor running while winching.

I would like a fast idle function on the Ranger like 4wd's of old had, really aids winching.

Batteries parallel conneted don't charge up as well as crossed over batteries.

Can't help you much as I don't have/need a second battery.

I have 2x100 amp in the van and an AGM in the Ranger and the car keeps them all charged.

Yeah never connect your winch to the Aux battery, always the main battery. My runva 11xp has the capacity to pull 500+ amps if under super heavy load. Thats enough to fry your aux battery quick smart.

When it needs to, PX2 Ranger will high idle by itself when in neutral.

Mine does when cold but when it is at running temp the idle doesn't fluctuate.

I used the winch a lot last November on the beach at Arno Bay.

There is a similar product to an iDrive that has a high idle function, but I haven't seen one fitted in a vehicle yet.
