Hi will a sync 3 system fit into a 2017 xl and work without programing

Have never done one. There will be a lot of components requires due to the screen size difference, also wiring will be different between Sync1 and 3 and need to be modified to suit.

I have not invested at this point in time to purchase XL face plates Sync 1 etc to see what is involved.

Programming wise it should just work but you will end up changing some programming as some of the functions will not be applicable to your vehicle.

It is plausible that the fascia will have to be programmed to suit non climate as you most likely will not have the cabin temp sensor.

This will be interesting to see how they implement Sync3 to MY20 XL models.
