Issue: Some 2015-2016 Everest/Endeavour and 2015-2016 Ranger vehicles built between 01-Jun-2015 and 19-Dec-2016 equipped with a 2.2L or 3.2L engine may experience an illuminated Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P2413 (Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) System Performance) or P042E (EGR Control Stuck Open) or P042F (EGR Control Stuck Closed) present. The probable cause for this concern is the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve sticking.

Action: Should a vehicle present with the above concern, technicians are advised to follow the Service Instruction below.

PDR Table
PDR Code Description Time
TSB172028 Reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) as Per the Service Procedure (Includes Drive Cycle to Clean EGR Valve) 0.5

Service Instruction

1. Connect IDS to the vehicle.

2. Reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to the latest service calibration using IDS release 103.05 or higher. Make sure you are connected to the internet when entering module programming to obtain the latest updates. Calibration files may also be obtained from the Professional Technicians Society website – Select Rotunda - Diagnostic Tool Support - IDS Support - Module Reprogramming.

3. Clear DTC(s).

4. Evaluate the vehicle to ensure correct operation.

5. Complete the following drive cycle to clean the EGR Valve.

a. Start and run the engine for 30 seconds and then switch the ignition to OFF.

b. Repeat Step (a) 6 times.

c. Drive the vehicle for 5kms.

d. Connect to IDS and check for PCM DTC's. If DTC's P042E or P042F return after the drive, refer to Diagnosis, 2015.5 - 2016 Diesel PC/ED, Section 4 -Diagnostic Subroutines, DTC charts and descriptions on the PTS website for further diagnosis.

NOTE: DTC P2413 can be recorded at any time during the life of the vehicle. This DTC alone (without DTC P042E or P042F present and the MIL illuminated) only advises that the EGR valve had become sticky in the past but the PCM software has been able to unstick/clean the EGR valve and return it to normal operation.
