Has anyone used or hooked one of these (https://carperformance.se/product/range ... id-system/) up to there ranger. Would be very interested in one. There is also a harness one that can mirror your phone (https://carperformance.se/product/ford- ... oring-kit/)

I was looking at it last year and I still like the idea of mirroring but being it is in not 2 way touch I left it in the maybe one day basket.

Didn't even notice that until you pointed it out but the first link is an android computer system piggy backed in with touch screen capability. Only thing is it is out of stock and looking at the installation manual the site provides it is hard to see how much functionality of the original sync 3 system remains.

But what version of Android?

Nearly every single version of Android on these types of devices is version 4 or 5 and this is a huge issue as there are a lot of apps that no longer support those versions, this will also not improve. Versions that say version 7 are usually just re-branded version 4 or 5.

Not trying to turn you off them but just do your research first as it is quiet a lot of cash to spend if it does not run what you want in the end.

Quality varies a lot. I put an Android head unit in my previous BMW and it didn't sync to disk properly before power-off so data corruption was a real problem, and the under dash GPS antennae was a bit hit or miss when getting a lock. The screen was resistive touch (vs capacitive) and great for button pushing but rubbish for dragging icons or menus. That said, there was a guy who put a lot of work into developing a similar head unit that resolved those issues. See if you can talk to an existing user first!
