Navigation upgrade?

Sort of Sync 3 related but is there an upgrade for the navigation system ? I purchased a memory card from ANZ TomTom on the Ford site that turned out to be funk and they fully refunded me the $125 on return of the memory chip -- so my question is - is there an update for 2017 Wildtrak's ?? Sydney streets wise mine (Sync3) is woefully out of date and I often have to resort to using either my iPhone or iPad to find addresses that are no more than a year old.

If you go to Newranger.net site, there has just been posted your answer. Latest update Feb this year and tells you how to get it

Hi Allan,
That's the Ford site I went to, I was then directed to send (I think it was) $125 to ANZ TomTom - I did this and received a memory chip - my Wildtrak doesn't have a slot so I used a USB adaptor but it wouldn't load. I wrote to ANZ TomTom and they concurred that the upgrade wouldn't work on a Sync3 system and that the only other way to upgrade was to have the local dealer download it and do a ECM upgrade at the same time, they refunded my outlay. I will not allow and ECM upgrades as I've had a flash tune installed by the HPF and any ECU upgrade deletes it and my engine goes into limp mode until I have it re-installed at a cost of $300!

A catch 22

Do you use an iPhone? Google maps or even Apple Maps are much better than Ford's Nav system and using CarPlay makes it seem almost factory.

With iOS 13 you can set up automated fucntions to recognise that you've connected to the car and get it to launch certain apps automatically. I have mine launch Waze and Spotify as soon as I plug in to the car and Car Play loads.

The only negative is the number of button presses required to get out of Car Play and into the Ford system to change Audio source to a non phone option (DAB, CD etc.)

There is no aftermarket nor factory Sync3 map updates available to the general public or online unless you visit a dealer or see me.

https://www.ford.com.au/owners/service/ ... p-updates/ 7 years free map updates, so just get the maps done!! There is no reason to do PCM or any other module update, it is only a USB drive plugged into Sync 3.

In that case I'd better see you as I had the front brake hose recall carried out yesterday morning (8.15am 1/11/19) at Clancy's at Bathurst and they said that there was no upgrade for the Sync 3 navigation system, so I seem to be getting some mixed messages.

I have a feeling that some dealers don't have a clue. I had mine serviced in Loxton earlier this year and all they did was turn on wifi and told me it would update on-line all by itself... yeah right!

I have been holding off getting the map updates as I enjoy being able to access the system on the move. Has there been a fix for this as yet? If there has, I will update the maps at the next service, if not, I will leave as is

The maps have nothing to do with accessing the system. Its the system that controls ehatvu can and can't do

Not sure if that is entirely true.
I can recall people getting their maps updated approx 12 months ago and it was locking them out accessing the system while on the move. At the time this change was irreversible

Worst case install Sync 3.0 2.0. you can go back and the latest maps will still work with it.

It will depend on how map updates are done. USB that the dealer has will do a system and map update at the same time and although it can be modified to only do a map update they would not know how to do so.

How do I get the latest maps without it locking me out of accessing on the move?
Is there a way?

Borrow the dealers USB and then modify it or PM me and I will sort something out for you as you have a good post count and have donated.

Hi there,
Ford chat line told me yesterday there is no such thing as the free maps update. If I go in without servicing they will charge me and if I do it with a service the charge is incorporated in the service.
I just discovered the Android auto yesterday and without driving and fully testing it out have already found this a much better option as I can use Waze or Google maps which are always up to date and almost never need to touch my phone to do anything (so far). All I need to say is 'ok google' and give the instructions...

Agreed. Android auto with Google maps/Waze is the way to go. Best part is twice now it has taken me around traffic congestion. At the time I thought it was faulty, but saved me heaps of time. Hopefully they get it upgraded soon to show GPS speed.

VDJ79,

The Waze app does show the speed and according to my dashcam is spot on. ;)

I may have to do that in future, I went into the local Ford dealership in Penrith and forked out $80 to have the navigation upgrade installed.

Sorry, I should say map updates are only free if serviced at your Ford dealer. If they are still fighting anyone on it then it is listed here https://www.ford.com.au/owners/service/ ... p-updates/
