Hi All

Got a couple of questions, wondering if any one out there has had similar issues.

Firstly..
ESC failure : alert warning . Had this twice now on different days. Both while in 4wd on sand with traction control turned off.
Warning appeared after about 20 to 30 minutes, went away after turning car off (scary first time hoping it would restart) and restarted.

Second issue is sort of a hard one to describe. and doesnt occur all the time but here goes.

" when driving along and you take your foot off the accelerator, then vehicle coasts". No problem with that. the issue i think i have is Driving along take foot off accelerator, vehicle coasts but its as if there is a brake on its as if the vehicle is trying to stop."
and after driving it smells of hot brakes..

Any suggestions as to what may be happening..

thanks

This happened to me in June. I was driving in the rain and two error messages popped up on the left dash display. The first was "Hill descent control malfunction", and the second was "ESC Service required". I noticed more symptoms of an error, but don't know how they relate:

1. The white steering lines on the backup camera display were gone.
2. Can't engage 4WD.
3. The ESC light on the upper right corner of the dash came on and would not go off.
4. The Hill Descent button in the center console didn't have any effect.

I called my dealer and he said there had been a recall for Rangers concerning a water leak into the electronics because of the heated windshield. He checked my VIN, and the recall didn't apply to me. He asked me to check the fuse box in the engine bay to see if there was any water in it (there wasn't).

He told me his 2016 XLT did the same thing, and the problem went away after setting all night. When he took it to the shop, there were no error codes logged. After a couple of these events, he took his Ranger in for a thorough inspection, and the mechanic found water damage in the engine bay fuse box.

The errors were gone the next morning and I haven't had any repeat errors since June.

Basically check for fault codes if you have not already.
