Good day everyone, I am Having Issues with my 2018 Ford Ranger XLT 4X4 STEDI LED headlight conversion kit. I installed the kit on the 1st of Oct 2018 and the installation was not Hard everything went well. But The LED lights flash once very quickly now and then(Looks like someone is taking a photo with the flash on its very noticeable) when pulling out of the garage or while driving at night and also looks like they fade sometimes as some nights they are very bright and other nights they are not that great. I am speaking to a STEDI support guy via EMAIL who suggested it may be the battery but I doubt it as the vehicle only has 5922KM on the ODO and is only 4 months old. If anyone has heard or know what is going on I would realy appreciate the help I really like the look of these lights but I don't want to risk my new Ranger getting damaged because of this I love my Ranger to much and would rather then change back to stock if it is at risk.

Never had an issue with any LED as yet.

Can you check the voltage at the light when you believe it bright or dull?

Did your vehicle have DRL in the headlight as default?

I wonder if they are over heating? Let us know the outcome.

When I spoke to Stedi they told me that the latest batch have tails for cooling.

The earlier ones had a small fan and they were prone to over heating.

Hi Saeb, thanks for the response,
I had the vehicle battery tested and all is perfect.
The Ranger has DRL as standard in the headlights.
I don't think they are overheating as it happens in the first few minutes when the vehicle is started to take it out of the garage. There after every few minutes it will quickly flash (like a camera flash going off).
We are a Ford Approved Major repairer in South Africa and I have a rather good knowledge regarding the Ford vehicles as I work with there electronics quite a lot but this situation keeps me awake at night trying to figure out what is going on. I'm wondering if the vehicle is not trying to kick the lights out to give the bulb out error but then the led globes module just resets it quickly to prevent the light from staying off and the light bulb error coming on.
But its still doing it and I'm trying to get it on video.
Stedi is not very helpful as I tried sorting it out with them but they seem to think the vehicle is the issue.
The Ranger has 6501 KM on the ODO now.

Hi RossPat

The Led Kit I received from them are the new ones with the tails on them.
But I must say, I'm not trying to be mean or sound like a complaining client but I'm very disappointed in the quality of these bulbs and the LED park globes.
Reason; The globes have two parts on them the LED light and then the adapter to make it fit in to the socket of the ranger, The LED was sitting so loose in the adapter that they would not focus to give the correct beam or output as suspected. I had to remove the adapter and slide it off and use some heat protective tape to put on the base of the LED globe and slide the adapter(tight) back on to get it to sit center and and not move up and down. after that they worked and focused perfectly. The LED park globes= Only one worked other one completely dead tried everything. Got New ones off amazon for 30% of the price of the Stedi ones and they look the same and work amazing.

You could try disabling the bulb out feature in the BCM, this will at least put the problem of a possible reset out of the question.

Hi Saeb

Yes I’m going to try it I ordered the USB dongel for the Ranger and registered with Forscan to try this just waiting for the item to arrive.

Will post if it works

Can we disable bulb out in the BCM configuration menu or only As Built?

Hi everyone thanks for the reply and would like to give you guys an update on the issue. Ended up removing the LED’s and replaced them with Osram Night breaker lazer bulbs and must say they are a huge improvement and are working great .

Hi
If I disable that feature and try a non-canbus led, is there any chance of burn the bcm anyway?
If not, I will give them a chance and try because I'd already ordered them.

Very low profile and have cooling fans. I'm just worried about burning the bcm. If I get an error and need to reset the bcm, I have forscan, I think I can do it.

Canbus resistor is generally built into the voltage regulator and is why they all have the box on the cable. Try one without it and watch all the smoke leak out. The ones in your pic must have built in voltage reg.

Bypass everything. Run relays for your LEDS and turn off bulb out feature then see if they still do it. If they still do it then they are faulty.

Would I buy the ones you are looking at, nope not a chance. Do as I said above, you don't need to do a full fit, do temporary relay and wiring to test then go from there.

I got my stedi h11 and installed them. They work great and I thougt that h15's will be great too and ordered them too. They don't work as they should be. They work as Drl but when they are running as drl they don't work as high beam. When h11's are running as low beam, h15's are going off and then they work as high beam if I pull the high beam selector switch.
I inform Stedi about this problem and they return and say that they have sold lots of them and had no problem, the car's wire system may have problem. :)
Halogen h15's works as they should but the car may have problem. Great way to solve a problem for a company.
They offer me to return the item but I'm in Turkey and they are in Australia. :)
I understand that, if you buy something from them and if it won't work as it should be, the car have the problem. There is no need to investigate the problem.
Thats ok, I'm using them as just high beam.

:)

Being the genuine globes work as they should then I can not give you any insight as to why the Stedi ones do not.

I just Installed some OSRAM Nightbreaker Lazer globes in my Ranger and they are a 200% improvement over stock so if you keep struggling with the LED globes like me try the OSRAM's I was quite impressed and they are quite whiter than the OEM ones

Just an update re LED globes
Recently changed the fog light globes over to Stedi's, after several weeks noticed one was not working, contacted Stedi who, thanks muchly replaced the globe, saying very unlikely that a globe would kark itself
Never thought much more about it until i noticed the parking led was strobbing on Saturday
Flicking thru Google i came upon an article that said be aware when jump starting your car that it can spike the electrics and blow LED globes out
Unfortunately due to Corona virus and not using the Ranger the battery had gone flat, jumped started using an ARB power pack, but as i was reading out of the manual, did place the earth directly to the battery, whether this had any affect ?
So if you have leds and jump start, just be aware!
