OBDLink MX+ or MX WiFi???

All,

Just wondering which of the OBDLink models I should buy, the new MX+ (which is Bluetooth) or the older MX WiFi?

Can’t see a real difference between the two (apart from pairing protocol/method).

On the OBDLink.com website they mention ‘free OEM add-ons’ as the only difference. (What are these?) This difference is not mentioned on other sites where it can be purchased.

Price seems to be about $100USD for MX+ and $130USD for MX WiFi. (I am in Australia).
Where is the best site/place to purchase?

I will be using an iPhone for in car guage monitoring - and when I get brave, an old Windows laptop for Forscan stuff.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers.

If you are going to use ios then you only have one choice, the MX+.

That does both, Android & IOS via Bluetooth.

I have seen them on ebay from sellers in Sydney for AUS$189 and up.

Not sure you will see all the modules with Wifi but it maybe OK for monitoring.

MX wifi is fine for doing everything on any device.

Yep same never had any drama's with it on any of my devices or laptops. It's about the most robust obd tool I could ask for.

You must have been lucky. My unit dropped out or failed to connect all the time. This is a well known and much reported problem with the WiFi unit, which is the only one that works with iOS. I ended up getting an Ultragauge, added the manual gauges designed by Stewart and have not used the OBD link since. As explained elsewhere in the forum, OBD link is still useful to scan some fault codes the UG does not report, but for monitoring while driving you cannot beat UG.

I monitor while driving using a Black OBDLink MX Bluetooth.

I have an 8inch tablet sitting on the console, I find it easy to read.

I just bought the MX+ from Amazon for $129. Using OBDlink software on Android. What app provides the best and most info with this adaptor? Definitely not seeing all the stuff in the picture posted ATM.

The OBDLink app is the one I use.

A lot of the things I monitor use custom PID's which you can read about here viewtopic.php?f=57&t=1459
