Finally fitted the turbo

finally fitted the new garret turbo. Easy job. Few bolts here and there. Worthwhile upgrade. Billet compressor wheel and shaft. Better bearings. Garret claim 20% increase in flow without a tune. This thing whistles like a kettle now! Spools up significantly quicker and gets up and goes. Above all more reliable when out remote.

That's the direct swap Powermax unit?

Nice. I'm sure that it wouldnt take much to design a better unit but 20% increase without a tune is a bit bold though... the MAP sensor might be getting in the way of that.

Yeah the Garret Turbo Charger GTB2256VK. Good bit of gear. Based on the gtx gen2. Specs available everywhere and a cheap upgrade at $1700. Reason for upgrade was the reliability not the power...It is a bonus though🤙

Curious on your concern for reliability, I assume a 3.2? I change the oil every 10k and allow the oil to warm up a bit before putting my foot into it and also let it idle down a bit too.
110k tuned and still going strong. I was going to replace turbo but funds where tight so will see how many more kms.
Good to know the alternative works well

I stand under correction but as far as i know it was the PX1 3.2 turbo's that were a bit less reliable. PX2 allegedly a better unit.
Perhaps he has a PX1?

Yes, 3.2.
The PX2/3 uses a turbo with a smaller shaft that can be prone to failure (even without additional boost). Australia is a big place when you're somewhere remote.
The Powermax unit appears to be a noticebly stronger unit and can move about 10-15% more air at a similar boost level.

The GCG website has a wealth of information on upgraded turdbos for all flavours of px ranger. As mentioned above the turbo upgrade is a reliability upgrade. As is the intercooler and silicone hoses. Attempting to have a trouble free, reliable powerplant for the remote touring especially when towing.
