Having consistent connection issues with SAEB.Net supplied Forscan Dongle USB running through WINE on Ubuntu. Keep getting "No ELM Found".
Need some serious trouble shooting here. I can see Dongle in Ubuntu, Flashes at connect request but thats it.

Calling all Penguins!

You will need to contact Forscan re wine support with Forscan etc.

Best I can offer is this link on Forscans forums here;
https://forscan.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2338
https://forscan.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5542
https://forscan.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8958
https://forscan.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13753

but as I rarely use Ubuntu for anything I cannot be of further help. Seems reasonably common issue though without searching any further.

If it did not work on XP to Win10 natively then I could be of more help.

Thanks Stewart. Appreciate the frank response.
Ill source a W10 laptop and double check everything. Need to reduce the variables.
Cheers.

I run Linux exclusively as well. For anything that needs USB, if WINE is being a pain it can just be easier to run a VM and bridge the USB.

1. Install Virtualbox along with the extension pack from the virtualbox website, not your distros packages. https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
2. Grab a free Windows 10 VM from Microsoft, the Edge ones are smallest: https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/m ... tools/vms/
3. Install the VM on virtualbox and enable the USB controller in its settings.
4. Boot the VM and in the menus under Device > USB select your Forscan device.
5. Install and use Forscan from the VM

Hey Mate.
Thanks for the post. should have thought of that.
I cant see my USB dongle in the VM. Lights are on, but no USB action. Thoughts?

Can you see it when the VM is running in the top menu Devices > USB ? Make sure its ticked else it wont share it with the guest.

If you cant see it here it means the extension pack isn't installed or not enabled properly in Virtualbox.

Hey mate.
I think I fixed it this morning. Had to create and add myself to A VBoxUsers group.

I can now see the devices in VB and in the VM. Keen to try after work.

This now resolved.

Used a W10 Virtual Machine using Virtual Box. This was by far the easiest and mos effective solution,

Thanks go out to jamiex2 for his assistance.
