Hi Guys

I own a 2019 2.O Bi-Turbo Wildtrak (8500 miles covered) in the UK. It has had an issue that I felt was not right but after talking to the Ford dealer they told me they all do it. Basically at the joint of the pipe to the intercooler on the hot side (Next to washer fluid top up on RHD), which is fitted using the wire snap clip, there is oil misting which over time builds up to be quite a lot and drips onto a wiring loom and small water pump at the bottom of the radiator/intercooler assembly. A few days ago the check engine light illuminated and the error was p261B which relates to an auxiliary electric water pump B. I booked it into the dealer and they said the fault was sporadic so just cleared it and again assured me that the oil misting was normal.

Can anyone confirm if this oil misting is a characteristic and also is the small pump at the bottom of the intercooler/radiator assembly know as Pump B.

I find it strange as if the oil is getting out then so is air and the crankcase oil may well have destroyed the seal of the electrical plug for pump B (If it is identified as pump B of course).

Many thanks in advance.

Not something I'm aware of but I have 3.2 so totally different engine.

Was not aware they had an electric water pump now but learn something everyday. Cannot advise on location with specifically going though online manuals.

Personally I would say both are not normal. Keep hassling the dealer.

Hi

Thanks for the reply, I have spoken to the dealer again and it seems that the issue is the Ford Warranty process and the evidence required to justify a repair. They are saying currently that the oil misting is within guidelines and not bad enough to allow any part replacement under warranty. I do not accept that and will keep pushing.

The P261B fault was just cleared during a service and it then returned the following day when I started the truck up. The light came back on. Talking to the dealer again about this, the response was that they are following Ford warranty guidelines regarding diagnosis.

I have carried a bit of diagnosis myself and checked the ground, 12V and pump function signal wire these are all OK. So it seems that the pump has failed. It is the small pump located at the lower part of the inter cooler, which was verified when I removed the plug with the ignition on for the wire tests, as it added another fault to the memory for the pump b. The function is to circulate water through the heater matrix and EGR Cooler.

So, it is going back in again on the 5h August, we shall see if they can fix it this time, fingers crossed.

Cheers

G’day Flatsix666, I’ve got a 19.75 Raptor, had the same issue with the hot side pipe leaking (first picked up at only 3000km), took it to Ford for an inspection, they said it was a known issue and replaced it immediately with the ‘revised’ intercooler pipe design and a whole new intercooler. Haven’t had a problem since, now at 25,000km. Hope this helps.

Hi Frazedouglas

Thanks for the reply, will add ammo to my chat on the 5th August. I think the crankcase oil leaking/dripping onto the Electrical connector of the water pump has caused that fault, so I hope they can string that together and do the right thing regarding repairing the cause and not just the symptom.

Many Thanks

Hi Folks

Me again, so the truck is back and the pump issue is sorted, the old pump was seized, so my assumption that the oil may have caused an electrical fault was wrong.

The dealer is still saying that Ford UK will not authorise the changing of any components in the intercooler loop as the oil misting is not bad enough. Will take it to another dealer at some point and see if I can get a different outcome.

Cheers
