I bit thye proverbial and bought one of these and installed it some twpo weeks ago.

My initial thoughts, are its grear BUT it could be lighter !!
I use it to store the tools that I may need urgently, 4000A auxiliary starter unit, multimetre, 1/4" socket set etc. and for that its perfect and I'm quite happy with it.
The fitting instrictions while comprehensive missed four spotwelds that had to be drilled out and omitted to explain that the innermost lip of the box has to be inserted into the existing tailgate dust seal. While the instructions advise a 12mm drill for the spotwelds on reflection a propper spot weld drill would be far better, even so I had no problems, I used a 3mm jobber drill initially to centre my drilled holes and went up to 8mm and then 12mm until the welds had been fully drilled out. I used some bits of copper pipe I had to make spacers on the drills to limit the depth that they could go, there is a risk of the drills going through the inner skins as you drill out the spot welds and damaging the outer skin when you drill out the spot welds - so be carful if you install one.
The other thing is, as I mentioned, the final weight. I had previously installed an additional kit to aid in soft closing and slow opening of the tailgate and I'm glad I did, I dont think the OE springs would cope with the additional box weight, never mind whrn its full of "stuff". Its fabricated from steel, I would have prefered it being made from alloy.
The other thing is I had some time back installed an after-market solonoid kit to lock the tailgate with the central locking function, -- this had to go as there is no space provision for it whren the Huracan compartment is installed, so if you want it, contact me.
All up, I'm glad I installed it, the flat surface is 100% better than the OE plastic ribbed cover and you get to utilize all that otherwisw wasted space.

Thought of one but they are too heavy with limited storage
The stock plastic cover is an easy fix
Undo screws, pull out plastic and slide in a 4mm thick sheet of Acrylic, then cover with Marine grade carpet if you have crook knees

You are very right about the weight factor but despite the storagew space limitations its very handy for things that I may need quickly and want easy access to for example - multimeter; tyre puncture kit; 1/4 drive socket set; gas fired soldering iron; spare light bulbs, fuses etc. NOCO 4000A booster unit.

As you said in the end its a very expensive and heavy storage unit but I'm happy with it.
