So I had 10 minutes today to try a temp install of my remote window setup, same as in an Everest.

I'm happy to confirm it works and should have worked months ago until I found water in the wreckers Everest window switch I purchased.

Possible warning on buying used electronic items from an interstate wreck. These cars are generally not water tight after an accident and this is the second item I have now found water in.

Anyway, remote windows works in full. Remote up and down as per factory install and full IPC control, looking forward to summer now. Now to fit it all in, add some additional wiring for power from the BCM and connect up to the Can Bus and we are good to go.

I will do a quick video in a couple of weeks with the end result.

Look no hands.

One side basically done.

There is still some further pin changes and pin additions required but so far no running wires on the drivers side. Passenger side may take longer due to additional wiring runs.

Its a start anyway. It is factory and the additional IPC menu will enable and disable.

Keyless entry will never be a priority. I was an automotive locksmith for 23 years having worked on many immobiliser systems, so I value having a real ignition barrel that needs a real key to drive away. If someone can make it they can beak it and that person will always take an easy target (keyless) over smashing off a mechanical steering lock. Insurance is great but a missing vehicle is a huge inconvenience.

Good luck, it's a time consuming job. Allow 2 days and have all the wiring diagrams and parts required handy.

I like that its OEM and not heaps of clicks like redtek

I have not seen the Redteck module so cannot comment.

Adding genuine parts is not really cost effective unless the parts can be had very cheap. Time is another factor but for me I just like having it factory.

Everest's that have auto remote windows in the wrecking yards are very few and far between, you also have the problem of water having been in switches etc.

Wiring is far from plug and play also.

Hi Stewart.

As part of a little project I'm about to start on, I'm considering developing my own window close system.

I'll be fitting a PLC in the vehicle to do a few things and was thinking about picking up on the door solenoid wire to allow me to count the number of "locks" within a given period of time. If the PLC sees 3x lock within the period is then drives an output to wind the windows up. I can either connect it to the OEM window switch or go direct tot he window motor and drive it until the current peaks as the window is closed.

Couple of questions for you given your experience - Are wiring diagrams including pin-outs available for the window switch panels and motors?

Do you know if the central locking is handled on CAN? I'l be hooking the PLC into the CAN anyway so if I can count locking pulses on there its less work than finding a 12V signal in the door.

Central locking is on CAN.

As much as I have no time for them and would prefer to not even mention the name, have a look at the Redtek remote window module as it looks cheap and will save hours and days of work.

$44, lol.

Try it if you want to but you will have some wiring to sort.

The Redtek model from what I have seen inside are a POS. Chinese cheap relays and being cheap can mean that slamming a door or hitting large pot holes can trigger a relay. I'm not saying do not buy one but beware and if it was me I would swap out each relay with something of an automotive quality. Positive on the RT is that the wiring is correct and with the correct plugs.

No, too expensive to be feasible for the average person. Expect to pay 1k to 2k for factory components and at least 2 days to get working with another day prior to sit down and work out all the wiring changes.

Would still be cheaper to buy Redtek and replace the components with some quality ones.

Yep that does price it out of being worth while.

Would it be cheaper if you just want auto down for the passanger or is it pretty much all the same gear thats needed

Makes no difference. You have to do the whole kit or you will not be able to control the passenger window from the drivers.

Waste of time mod IMO.
I had this on a VW golf, enabling it through VCDS.
Hardly used it after the novelty wore off.
The best part was the auto windows up when the rain sensing wipers sensed rain if the car was parked and locked with windows down a bit.

I tend to use it when I jump out at the shops and wind up the windows while I'm walking away from there car or on hot days 5 minutes before I go to the car I will open them so the car is cooler when I get inside.
