Using fog lights as cornering lamps

As part of my PLC project I'm considering enabling cornering lamps using the fog lamps. Seems like a simple job once you can pick up steering angle, speed and indicator status on the CAN. Simply piggy back on the fog lamp wiring and turn them on/off using the PLC when required.

Has anyone done this before?

Does anyone know what the operating criteria normally is for Ford cornering lamps in general? Do they only work up to a certain speed? Doe they only work with indicators active? I assume they dont work in reverse? I'd like to make operation seem as OEM looking as possible.

I've seen some other brands operate cornering lamps by fading them up and down which looks fancy. This seems like a good way to help preserve globe/lamp life as its a much friendlier way to turn it on when cold.

Try BCM change

From
726-26-01 xxxx-x0xx-xxxx

To
726-26-01 xxxx-x1xx-xxxx

Untested. I'm assuming it will use the fog lights, not sure if we will need to enable anything else so when your stuff arrives, give it s a go.

Just checked. Can confirm it works 100% on the fogs.

Keep in mind they may not pass as cornering lamps according to ADR.

Interesting reading here https://www.legislation.gov.au/Details/F2017L01484 and here https://www.legislation.gov.au/Details/ ... 4/Download

I could be reading it all wrong but it does say "This Legislative Instrument has been subject to a Motion to Disallow". Legal jargon is open to opinion at times though.

Sorry, answer to your other question is they work when the indicators are on.

Just changed settings to operate individual fog lamp with corresponding indicator. Works a treat. Only works with headlights on.

Kerry, does it change with road speed. I assume it only works under a certain speed?

Just road tested fog light on with indicator. Fog light cuts off above 40kmh. Certainly makes a difference when turning at an intersection.

Finally got around to enabling this with ForScan last night. Works well and is an interesting feature.

Whilst the fog lamp doesnt illuminate a great distance away from the vehicle, it does fill the shadow nicely at that corner when turning.

I can see me also using it when trying to find an address at night time (here in WA we often have house numbers painted on the kerb) - I can drive slowly along the street with the indicator on and the fog lamp will illuminate the kerb nicely.

Quick video I just made:

Hmmm, might give this a try seeing I live in the country with basically no street lights on the corners in our part of town.

Might be easier to see Skippy standing around the corner Gerry

Next change is to increase the number of indicator flashes - The default setting doesnt keep the indicator/cornering lamp on for quite long enough.

Between this and lane assist I've become very good at using my indicators!!

Five seems to be the most popular which is "A"

Do you use Lane Assist all the time or just in the country?

Change made... hopefully I'll be able to see our (unlit) street corners a bit better in the dark now. :)

I have it switched on all the time - My journey to/from work is near 100% dual carriageway and I often head into the city on the freeway. It works well in this environment and whilst I like to think I wouldn't stray from my lane if driving without it, it does respond well when I've tested it intentionally.

I don't see any need to turn it off, particularly as it doesn't work until you reach a certain speed.

It actually doesn't work on WA country roads as they don't have sufficient lane markings for it to see the "lane"

The new company vehicle uses the fog lights as turning lights at low speed, it is handy when maneuvering in tighter spots.

Tony.

Doubt it but have a read through the list for PX1 here viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1213 and see if it is listed.

When I go through my car I can't find half those items on that list. Will have to have another look...

On how to do what?

If be the above reference then it has no bearing on your PX2, the above poster has a PX1. Well the signature sugest PX1 anyway.
