Ultragauge Blue

Just wondering what peoples thoughts and experiences are on the Ultragauge Blue?
I am after a unit to be able to monitor all different parameters, including Trans Temp.
I looked at the standard Ultragauge that most people use, but being a blind bastard would find it hard to read and monitor while travelling.
The idea of using my Ipad to monitor this info in conjuction with the OBD II dongle, is much more appealing due to the larger display screen.
Looking for peoples experience and thoughts on this unit, or recommendations for any others that are out there on the market.
Cheers

The exact same reason use my Android tablet & OBDLink dongle

Not sure how the ipad will go though.

Its an option. Not sure if it supports entering custom PIDs though, you would be best to email them and asking this question.

Or OBDLink MX RED version and OBDLink app on the iPad will do it. Do not buy blue, green, black, pink, orange, just RED as it suits the iPad.

Amazon US is shipping to AUS again so I would probably be looking there first.

Is it the OBDLink MX+ that you are suggesting?

As per Ross's link. No other colour will work with Apple devices.

Red and only Red for Apple.

Ok, so please show some patience with me, but doesn't the MX+ also work for Apple devices?

You might have me on that one. It is showing as working with IOS and is the first time I have noticed that device, its possibly very new.

Not sure why they are saying it is now compatible as it is still on BT v3.

Anyway it is saying it is so that is goods news and good find!

With the Red being WiFi what does that mean, my Ipad has to be WiFi also?

Cheers

You can't use a tablet to change anything.

You need a laptop running Windows 7 or 10 with Forscan installed.

You need to get the free Forscan extended license to be able to access all modules.

Then the 2 will connect via WIFI allowing you to make changes.

Sorry for all the questions, but what is the difference between Bluetooth (MX+ black), and WiFi (MX red)?

One connects via Bluetooth and the other connects via WIFI.

Bluetooth is best.

Agreed. It appears the new MX+ would be the best option for someone looking for a dongle to use with pads, phones and PC's.

Price of the OBDLink dongles has sky-rocketed lately. Picked up my MX BT for just over $100 delivered from the US 18 months back.

Manufacturer is a pain also. They do not want any more dealers anywhere and I'm pretty sure the prices any dealer gets is pretty poor.

I would like to stock a few but the cost if too high to have sitting on the shelf.

Same applies to Ultragauge, 5$ discount per unit on 50 units means just makes no sense to outlay 3500$ on something that may take months to sell.
