Crank Angle Sensor

Hi All
Seems like I'll be replacing my crank angle sensor this week.
Looks like if I drop the gearbox cross member it will give me room to get my hands to it to replace.
Has anyone here done one and is it that straight forward ?

6 months ago it wouldn't start, tried spare key still no start. Half hour later it started. Had code for crank angle sensor then and had been running fine since until last Sunday when it would start but stall every time I put it into gear. No fault code this time but thought I would replace it anyway. Local Ford dealer had one in stock for $380 but got one from Cooldrive for $95. While waiting for the CPS to arrive I decided to "service" the suction control valve with a 12v power input as you had posted in a tech tip previously. To get my hands to the electrical connection I had to remove the throttle body and elbow on the intake. Next thing I knew I was taking the manifold off to clean the carbon out. 53,000km, not severe buildup but wasn't baked on so I figured better and easier to do now.
End result engine seems to be running smoother than before
Had to drive 60km on Friday to pickup my caravan and the trip down averaged 8.9/100, usually in the 12's best I could get was 10.4 driving like a granny.
Bringing the van back it did 14.8 where it usually does16.5 to 17.5.
Happy with the improvement just need to drive it more to see if the initial fuel figures stay the same .

With the symptons you have said above, I found it to be the SCV. Since running fuel additive now and then it has not happened again in the last 65,000km.

But in your case better safe than sorry.

Yeah, no CPS code this time and with the stalling issue not being a usual symtom of a CPS is why I went to the SCV. Having read your post previously about pulsing the valve with 12V I figured it was worth a try. Thanks for that bit of tech info. The CPS was only replaced as a precaution because of the problem months ago and the fact that they are known problem.
