Hey Guys. Planning a family caravan trip from WA to Tassy in our PK2. What spares would you recommend carrying?
Thinking spare radiator hoses, intercooler hoses, fan belt, brake pads?

The hoses can be covered by some self-fusing Silicon Repair Tape.
Fan belt - yes (you're dead without water pump and alternator) and depending on existing mileage consider doing belt and idlers before trip.
Brake pads - No, (If there's plenty of meat then leave it, if not then install new pads before the trip)
For that journey you won't be far from spare parts (if needed) except country WA/SA.

It's much easier to do maintenance at home than when away.

We do a fair amount of long distance touring and I carry the following spares. "kit" and tools.
Top hose; Bottom hose; Serpentine belt; 1 litre engine oil; 1 litre concentrate OAT coolant; 1 litre DOT 4 brake fluid; 1 off cabin pollen filter.
A "kit" being the contents of a 2 litre ice cream bucket :-1 tube copper anti-seize; 1 tube Blue Locktite; 1 tube Super-glue; 1 tube silicon gasket maker. 2 rolls silicon SOS tape; 1 dual tube of high strength Alraldite; 1 tube of plastic steel; 1 small tube of rubber grease; Assorted amperage fuses, Ford mini's, standard blade, MIDI and glass tube types; 1 roll of 15 amp wire.
Tools: 1/4" Aldi socket set (it has everything) 1 Aldi tyre puncture repair kit; ARB tyre air-down kit; 1 Sidchrome 1/2" socket set; 1 set 8 mm - 21 mm ratchet/open ended spanner set; 1 8-24 mm ring spanner set; 2 tyre levers ( I use these to lift a spare wheel onto the hub ); 1/2' drive Ryobi battery hammer gun & 2 spare batteries; 1 Ryobi reciprocating saw for firewood - but I also carry some metal blades; ARB magnetic service lamp; ARB full Recovery kit; Multi-meter. Gas powered soldering iron.

I have a built in ARB twin cylinder air compressor.

All I have ever had to do so far 120,000 kms and 4 years was to replace a de-laminating top hose in Derby, a defective solar charge unit on my 150 watt fold-up solar panel in Darwin and repair 4 punctures experienced by other travelers when we saw them pulled over on various roads.

Get your Ranger and caravan fully serviced before you go. Prevention is better than having on the road issues. I always get mine checked after I service it by a second local garage - it's amazing what a second set of eyes will reveal, things that you were looking at and yet never saw.

I forgot the cable ties, you must have cable ties AND a good First Aid Kit that contains a packet of Panadol Forte pain relief tablets
