While doing a regular under body inspection the other day I freaked out on seeing oil all over the rear oil seal area and down the RH side of the auto-box.

My first conclusion was that the rear crankshaft oil seal had begun to leak however on further inspection this was not the case.

I sprayed degreaser all over the areas that had oil on them to try to determine exactly where the oil was coming from and it seemed to be coming from higher up on the engine and sure enough it turned out to be the small "O" ring on the engine rocker cover hose connection at the vent line.

The "O" ring had shrunk and was no longer fully sealing at the "press-on" connection.

So be warned if you find oil stains from a leak in these areas don't do as I did and jump to erroneous conclusions -- check it out first and check that "O" ring out .
