Ranger Mods

I upgraded from v2.0 to v2.2 a couple of weeks ago and although it did a couple of strange things, it successfully updated in probably 15 minutes.

So today I decided to upgrade to v3.0. Downloaded the files and unzipped to a USB stick, started the car and plugged it in (as per Ford's instructions). Nothing at first, then the message "Updating System Software". A hour and a half later and it's still sitting there with the same message. got on to Ford's chat line... waste of time... so shut down. It's still on v2.2 but I have now connected to my home wi-fi and enabled auto updates to see what happens. Ford tells you that you don't need the car running, so it's just sitting in the driveway - whether it will do anything I have no idea?

The USB is FAT32 as required and is the same stick I used last time.

Any ideas?

OK, cancel the above request for ideas... not sure what I did, but ferkled around a bit with both wi-fi and the USB stick and it finally decided that it would play the game, told me I could remove the USB and reset itself to version 3.

Do you know whats different with V3.0? Which revision do you have installed?

I see there is also a map update available - Ford Bosch SD Card Kit Version 23/12 - Australia although it is $199.

No idea actually... just thought I'd get the latest so installed v3 from v2.2.

Mind you, Ford sent me an email asking me to report the update on line... been looking for an hour, trying to follow their directions and stuffed if I can find the page they refer to??? I'm supposed to upload the file that the update process writes to the USB stick (which is there on the stick), but cannot find the elusive "Report" button anywhere.

OK, finally found the Report button. What a crazy design... you have to actually push the button that takes you to the download file, tell it you want to download and then.... it gives you an option to either download or report. Totally non-intuitive!

Hahaha... it's now just sent me an email (after I just reported the update), reminding me to report the update. I hope the IT design team is a long way removed from the vehicle design team.

Great job Gerry, yes it is a pain and nothing is straight forward about it but I'm glad you got it sorted.

v3.something. The latest on Fords website is what I would use. Check for an update on the Ford owners site and it will tell you if it current. Do not install 3rd party versions as it will probably lead to tears.

Update now supports my offline Sygic maps as a mobile app. Different icons, there should also be better compatibility with Android Auto apps etc.

Those maps are for Sync2 not Sync3.
