Apart from forscan, is there an OBD reader/software that will detect all codes? I have an UG but my understanding is it does not read everything.

I assume you mean diagnostic trouble codes? Most workshop diagnostic tools will do the job but as for cheaper handheld scantools then most will not read all modules. Some may but you will just have to keep buying them until you find one that does.

Thank you Stewart. So if I wanted something that reads and clears most if not all trouble codes what kind of instrument would I have to look for? On the other hand, does UG read the codes you are most likely to care about , this is, those you need to diagnose relatively easy to fix issues, clear them and keep moving?

UG will only do engine PCM DTCs.

Apart from Forscan Lite on a phone I cannot suggest any small standalone portable OBD reader that will read all modules DTCs.

Quick search led me to these models that should work on all modules, just keep in mind that most budget scantools generally cater more for the US market than AUS. Being the US market now have a Ranger then any of these should work ok.

It can be difficult to know what is what as so many items are clones of other items and even China clone each other tools so half of them use the same software.

If I was to lay cash down on a budget tool then I would probably go the Foxwell as the name has been around forever but word of caution is although most will list updates even known brands like Foxwell faze devices out so quick that updates are rarely ever seen.

Do your research as it looks like there is some licencing difference with the Foxwell in terms of how many makes are free then pay there after. https://www.foxwelltech.us/product-detail-612.html

The Autophix unit looks like an ok unit also that would work. Looks like these units are per vehicle make rather than the options to add additional makes.
