Warranty void.

I was at a Ford dealer this morning getting the DPF guard fitted under recall when I heard a raised voice.

A guy with a Wildtrak purchased in March was just told the bill to fix his car will be his responsibility as he fitted one of those Raptor style grills which reduces airflow enough to destroy turbos.

Aparently turbo damage is quite common with the grill change.

His car was taken away on a truck.

such a load of crap, unless they can document and prove airflow was impeded by the new grille they legally cannot deny the warranty claim. There is just no way those grilles cause turbo failure. The heat sensors and the temp gauge should go through the roof as well if that's the case.

Is there a heat sensor on the turbo with some sort of warning?

According to Ford it doesn't have to cause the failure, just contribute to it.

I had a close look at the grill and it certainly is restrictive compared to the original.

Enough to cause heat problems in winter, I am not sure.

In summer, quite possible.

Hmmm, bit of a worry with all the mods you can make to a new car. I wonder about cutting the bottom of the standard grill to fit a bar and winch? And then the addition of bash plates that link up to the bar? But then, Ford will have the bars fitted for you when ordered from new? Ford do seem to try to get out of stuff a lot. Are any other brands any better?
