Rear Tray puddle Lamp no longer coming on with door unlock/open

Hi all,

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this for me. :D

Before the lock down here in South Africa my rear high level puddle lamp worked.
Confirmed as my canopy light is wired to it and i used it one night a few days before.
Since the lock down started in South Africa I've kept the battery on a charger.
After one trip out to get supplies i decided not to reconnect charger but to use Silent Mode to reduce the power usage as i was busy working on the vehicle and opening and closing doors.

I saw on a new version of Forscan that Dark Car is an option in the BCM so thought I'd check what it did differently to Silent Mode.
It was then (before setting Dark Car) that I noticed the puddle light's not working in either Silent mode (via the button by the light switch) or with Silent Mode disabled.

Another new option in Forscan under BCM is Bed Lamp which is disabled by default. Enabling this has no affect.

In the Live Streaming section of Forscan I selected the Puddle Lamp Control option and Puddle Lamp Status Read function and can turn the lamp on and off in that way.

It appears my BCM has decided to not trigger the puddle lamp function as per normal operation anymore.

I haven't made changes to the BCM since the last time I knew the lamp worked, only something in the IPC related to average engine RPM display which didn't work.
I have had the battery disconnect for an hour, done a module reset on all modules and still nothing.

I have compared the asbuilt backup of the BCM I had when I knew the light was working to a copy made today.
They are identical so no accidental changes made!
Unfortunately no early backup of IPC except a screen grab but comparing that to the asbuilt saved today there is only one value I can't work out the function of: 720-01-01-045B-5460

Any thoughts?

So I manually changed that bit from a 5 to a 4 (original value) and sifted through all the non asbuilt IPC options each time and compared.
Turns out that bit changes the average fuel economy display type units km/l to l/100km.

So I'm no closer to figuring why my BCM won't activate the puddle lights circuit suddenly.

Can disconnecting the battery have something to do with it?
Has anyone noticed whether the puddle lights don't work initially after reconnecting the battery?
Maybe I have to drive the vehicle or something which seems silly but I've made no changes to anything to disable this.

What a lot of diagnostic effort for nothing...
Turns out one condition that is required for the rear puddle/cargo lamp to operate wasn't being met.
My handbrake was down!!

Good information for the next person with the same issue, sometimes lessons learnt the hard way are the best.

Well done and great follow up, lessons learned and now others can too from sharing.
Reminds me of the time my parents couldn’t start my girlfriend’s car, they bought a new battery still no go so they got a auto sparkie out (rural area) to look only for him to tell them the clutch had to be pressed in.....
