What do you want on this board

Hi everyone and thanks for dropping by.

This forum is mainly pointed towards modifying your rigs being mechanical or electrical although it can be expanded anything.

It will include specific areas in regards to Forscan, misc asbuilt changes, how to do it, articles, PID's for everything, how to add now modules, wiring, scangauge, ultragauge, etc. etc. etc.

Give me some ideas as this is not just about me. This is not a forum to take away from the Ranger forum, it is a specialist forum that we have full control over in regards to nearly anything. My existing info is spread throughout one thread which makes it difficult, the idea is to have control over how this info is displayed which will help everyone.

At the moment you have live chat.
If you need an increase in mailbox size then ask.
If you want something added then ask.
Most things asked for will most likely be met.

This is not a take and run forum. Give some feedback or input and if you can't then make a donation. Yes there is a button on the menu.

Help............
Forum categories etc.
Lay out of these.
Pages, articles etc.

In time I will look for moderators. If you want to be a moderator then send me a PM with what you can do to help.

Once we have some categories happening then things will start rolling.

Enjoy

Stewart

As-Built changes
Add-on modules (wiring + config)
Torque App configs

I'd add Scangauge vs Ultragauge setups too.

What are peoples thoughts on the best way to categorise for all this info? I will add new categories to accommodate.

Perhaps start with a few broad category headings such as Forscan, electrical, mechanical, engine etc., with related sub-topics below that. Once a few people start using this site, further topics should become apparent.

I also feel that 'sticky' threads which contain vital or often needed information would be a real bonus as well.

Is there an option to have a 'Files Section' with various documents or even spreadsheets containing useful information or data? These could be added to and/or maintained as information comes to hand.

Great work BTW Stewart, looking forward to sharing whatever and whenever I can.

I'm a big fan of your work. Although I have a lowly mk2 XLS, a lot of the forscan mods have been brilliant. Keep up the good work!

Ian

I'm trying to keep PX, PX2, Everest in different areas. Some tricks, programming etc will only apply to certain models and this will change again with the next model.

If we can keep information to the correct model categories that will be helpful for everyone searching the forum. I could incorporate engine, suspension etc into one area for all models but keep in mind certain aspects of the Everest and future Ranger are different.

Keep the input coming please.

Gerry, sticky will be a goer. It will not be a general user option of course or every post will be a sticky :)

Files section I'm onto it. I'm think it will be a thread with a post per downloadable item. It's easier to manage than a separate page. If you want to put something in the download area then PM me.

For attachments eg. pics and zip files I will raise the allowable limit to what we need. It is my own server so worst case I put a few more drives in it. If there are problems with allowances, mail, file uploads etc then let me know and if it is acceptable it will be changed.

I will make a new section in general for issues or changes required.

My current thoughts.......

Also we have 27 users now. I will update my signature soon but a baseline should be Richard's signature http://www.saeb.net/memberlist.php?mode ... ofile&u=55 great work Richard. This info helps me and others to help those that have questions.

Stewart, consider using Postimage for photo uploads. It can be integrated into your board and automated. It allows you to resize and will put up smaller pics which link to the uploaded file on their server... not yours. It also allows you to upload images directly from the poster's PC, which is really handy. A good friend of mine runs a board and uses it to save space on his system.

For now the site will run from home. I have a 100/40 Mbit connection so realistically users have 35 Mbit to play with. This is more than most hosting providers will give sites anyway. If the site gets hit hard and my connection suffers I will move it elsewhere or start blocking countries, so if site speed is an issue then tell me in the issues area.

Any server updates will happen very late or very early and if the power goes out then have a nap for a minute. An UPS is called for so if anyone has a spare or 2 sitting around then through it my way.

We have a huge amount of HDD to play with and the server is using about 5% of its resources so we are looking good. SSL, well TLS will be enable by default at a later date but I have noticed some browsers are still not supporting the latest encryption protocols so meanwhile if you want a secure connection use https instead of http. I don't believe it's a big issue for us anyway as everything is above board.

Consider me looking.

I have added lightbox already which gives the auto photo resize.

Only one Gerry, will Postimage be around in a week a year. Will they change to a pay system? Current attachments can be dragged and dropped straight into the attachment area. It will use less bandwidth off site yes..

Try the current way with multiple pics and give me some feed back. Try the drag and drop.

Yes, that works great. However, I did try and drop a 2.2mb pic into the editor and it told me it was too large... no prob's, what is the size limit?

I also dropped that large file into the Quick Reply box and it completely covered the screen... I had to back out to see the post again. LOL

Quick reply does not support drag and drop. What you saw was the actual pic locally, look at the URL address. It would have been the local file folder.

I have upped pics to 3Mb and amount of pics to max of 5 per post. I will look into a quick easy way to resize on the fly if file sizes are too large.

Hi Stewart,
Added a couple of Scangauge posts and it all seems to work well. Looking forward to some more activity from other users - I'm sure it will happen real soon. :D

Just one issue I'm having and that is with the Avatar limits. I cannot seem to be able to produce anything useful at 90 x 90 pixels and only 6kb. Maybe it's me, so I'll keep playing...

Update: Just checked my avatars on other forums and they range from 35kb to 135kb. Maybe the limit should be 60 and not 6kb? I shall await your response. :?:

Thanks Gerry, nice work on the postings.

Avatars, 90 x 90 is what it will be but I have increased allowable size to 150 Kb max.

If you have a sync 2 category you'll need a separate sync 3 one too, it will save any confusion on what works on what.
Cheers

How much of a call would there be for a sync 2 or 3 category? Mod wise there is next to nothing and it would be in forscan as built area. Tips and tricks etc I thought would probably cover the minimal questions? Thoughts?

I'm not sure how much either sync is able to be modified? Perhaps leave it for now and see how many changes/tips we get. My thoughts are that it's probably better to add topics when needed rather than have topics which are empty. Just my thoughts, but I' not fully versed with Sync possibilities.

I'm turning off the Email topic feature as it is too open for miss use by outside parties if they do register. Basically anyone can send anything to anyone not just the topic at hand and I don't need this board getting blacklisted.

There was an email sent this morning from here to thes*******s.com that was rejected by the remote host for whatever reason and it may be legit if the person that sent it wants to know.

All other emails will continue to work. Email a user instead of PM, topic notifications if setup in your profile etc.

Enjoy

Evening all
Would there be a place for a "For Sale or Wanted" category ?
There could be a lot of factory equipment laying around.
Just a thought.
Cheers.
