GPS inaccurate somtimes

I checked that other thread (viewtopic.php?p=17664&hilit=gps#p17664) but I think my issue is different.

So my 2015 PX2 XL, my Dads PX3 XL, and his SZ Territory with a Sync 3 radio, all have an issue with the GPS.

Suprisingly his 2017 PX2 XL which also had Sync 3 installed, works fine.

On startup, it complains there is an issue with the navigation system and to contact the deal. This is fine as you can close it and it works still. But then randomly during the drive, it will start to get inaccurate. In my PX2 atleast, I've noticed that it places me maybe 300m to the left of where I really am. This also affects CarPlay navigation so I can't ignore it. Anytime I'm driving thru suburbs, it constantly latches onto other roads making navigating impossible.

Is there anthing that can be done in Forscan to resolve this, or is it just the nature of having the Sync 3 unit install after the fact?

GPS antennas are cheap. Just a matter of finding a model that throws no errors. Took me months of trial and error and $$ to find ones that did not through DTC and or cause the issues.

Ah I see, sorry for the stupid post then. Will try to see what antenna is in the Ranger that isn;t having problems, and see if I can get the same one and test. Cheers

HI Saeb,

I actually didn't install this sync 3 unit to my ranger someone else did. Are you able to describe where the GPS antenna usually is? Also, is it possible to just disconnect it and CarPlay use the phone GPS? My problem is I only use CarPlay to navigate but I relies on the car GPS if its present, so when the ranger GPS starts to go crazy, it messes up CarPlay nav and I have to unplug my phone so the phone can switch to its built in GPS.

TIA

They may have installed it behind the instrument cluster where the original was or if lazy jammed it somewhere behind the Sync 3. Either way the Sync 3 will need to come out so you can unplug the GPS cable. Whilst out, check the plug as seated correctly, have seen cases before where they are not.
