Can someone tell me what exactly is this tool needed for.
I thought there was an antenna/receiver near each wheel therefore rotating a wheel wouldnt matter.

PX3 does not require it for a tyre rotation as they have multiple antennas due to the passive key.

PX2 only had one central antenna in the head lining so could not pin point a tyre location on rotation.

If you are rotation 5 or 6 tyres, replacing a sensor then you would require it as it needs to be programmed back into the BCM.

Interesting, some of these are auto learn and some are not. Some are Auto locate and some are not.

And some support both.

So this may have to be checked on a per vehicle basis atm.

Found this on another site. Can anyone confirm that it makes no difference in the tyre position for the tpms to work if your only monitoring tyre pressure and not tyre pressure with position. Hope that makes sense. Thanks.

"Thanks guys, after taking mine to Ford today to sort this issue out, it's not the coding of the sensor or the position it is on, it's whether the sensor you buy is calibrated to read the correct air pressure that is in your tyre. At the dealership today, their TPMS scan tool read the sensor saying it was inflated to only 30psi but there was 38 psi in tyres, there was the problem simple. Recalibrate the sensor to the correct pressure all done. No problem with rotations makes no difference which position the wheel goes on. All a learning experience but the problem is some Ford technicians are not up to date with these issues. This also may explain why some people who buy aftermarket sensors don't have a problem but some do.Just depends if the sensor is calibrated right for the correct pressure that is in the tyre. Ford will help you guys with his and it doesn't take long to do Anyway I hope this may help some of you guys. Sorry for any confusion on the previous posts it was just the information I was getting back from Ford. Happy days"

No it makes no difference unless you want to monitor pressures and know which pressure belongs to which corner of the car.

If sensors have not been fitted or replaced they still need to be programmed to the car anyway and by the sounds of it one or all of yours were not.

There is no calibration, they are programmed to the car or they are not. There is nothing that can be changed, altered, calibrated to make a sensor show the correct pressure, it just means they were not programmed in the first place.

Ford have no more control over TPMS than Forscan or the manual procedure for that matter.

All what Ford have done is your case is run the standard TPMS training procedure which is what this tool is all about.

Ah so for the people running multiple sets of tyres on their PX3's (AT and Mud), we still need to do a re-train? (sepeate sets of wheel sensors)
But on rotation the locations should automatically detect? Cheers.

You will at a minimum need to train in the second set of sensors.

When you change to the other set you will get a warning after about 10km and you can then do a reset from the cluster and it will revert to the other sensors.

Basiaclly train each new tyre set with the TPMS tool initially, just resert when swapping around.

Thankyou for that, looks like a TpMs tool order coming your way :)

Howdy once again

I posted this over on your thread at newranger.net b4 realising this is the place to be.
"
I have a 2018 build 2019 PXIII XLT. Has a push button ignition so assume pushing button equates to turning key in your instruction, and those all over amazon comments.

Have spoken to a Tyrepower store who can provide non Ford TPMS senders for $25 a pop, rather than $55 from ford.
He says they are just plug and play after doing on dash reset, they don't have to be configured using the tool you mention.
Could this be so for later models perhaps? Seems unlikely."

My plan is to get 5 off road tyres on Ford alloys, with TPMS sensors.
Safest option would be put up the extra $30 per wheel and get your
https://www.saeb.net/wp/product/tpms-se ... ning-tool/ [only just saw this, with the instructions, that I have now checked on a pushbutton starter - works fine.]

Or have you tested this tool on non genuine senders?
Cheers

Have not tested on non genuine sensors.

Feel free to try and program in without a tool and let us know how you go. If it is the case you will need to make sure that no other Ford vehicle is to close.

Thanks Stewart.
My local Tyrepower has these for $25 / wheel;
https://www.tiptop-tpms-au.com/pages/tp ... 20-%202020

Not sure which actual set Tyrepower has, but most likely the single frequency version;
https://www.tiptop-tpms-au.com/pages/pr ... ct=5623992
This one refers to a configuration tool. So am guessing that is the same as you have.
Others, dual band, the first in the list refer to "Auto-location functionality for LOS, WAL, PAL and SAL." - not sure what that means.

Seems one has to be a retailer/distributor to actually buy them from this site.

As it turned out, [sigh], Tyrepower wouldn't guarantee that the sensors they had would actually send tyre pressure to ECU. So have Ford TPMS sensors in my spare set of wheels. As usual, "you get what you pay for", "no such thing as a free lunch", etc.

I really need to read threads more completely. Stewart, I trust this doesn't mean the PX3 will recognise a completely new set of wheels and sensors without being "retrained". But does mean once "trained" it will recognise the wheels in their positions after rotation. Is that right.

If the sensors have never been trained then the BCM would not know the sensor id.

PX3 knows where the sesor is located due to the vehicle having 5 antennas as it has the prox key. Adding the additional antennas also meant the cluster tpms gauge was added because the tyres will show in the correct position. You will most likely still need to do a cluster tpms reset but will find that out after approx 10km if driving.

How do you put the PX3 ranger in TPMS learn mode that has a push button start?
Im getting new wheel in a few weeks and might need to get the TPMS reset tool as will be getting 5 new genuine ford sensors.
