DTE for Long Range Tank

Gday All,
Just got a tune from BPT motorsport. I asked Barry to change the fuel tank to 140L for me which he did.
I've just filled up ,should I see correct DTE now or does it take some time to correct?

Just wondering if I should try it myself with the dongle I bought from here.

You may need to put 3 or 4 tanks of fuel through before it reads correctly, needs time to re-calibrate.
It will only read correctly if the float arm has been bent correctly and the gauge may not move until you have covered about 200 to 300 klms.
Just give it time to settle in.

What was the DTE showing when you filled up? If done correcctly on a full tank it should still show between 1100 nd 1400km.

I had the ARB 140L tank fitted, changed the tank size using Stewart's dongle, and first tank full took around 350Km to move off empty. After 3 tanks, DTE reads correctly now.

Sorry, missed this post.

After I filled up it showed 800km and the tank gauge didn't move off full until it was halfway through.
I'm almost through my second full tank. Hoping it fixes itself on the next one.

DTE has no impact on gauge at all. One wire from tank sender to cluster. Gauge can only be influenced by the sender so if it is not moving until half way the the sender arm has not been bent correctly when the tank was installed.

Generally 250 to 320 ish is about how you will travel befor the gauge will move if bent correctly.

OK thanks Stewart, I wrongly assumed they must be linked somehow. I will pay close attention after next fill and see if it has been done correctly.

Hi Guys,
First time post.
My Ranger is a PX3 2019 .
I have had a 145L Brown Davis poly tank installed by a BD stockist, then had the tank calibrated by Ford. When full the DTE advises there is 1900 km available, then when the tank is at 0 according to the DTE indicator i can only fill to 120L. I took back to installer, they confirmed there was actually 140 + litres in the tank. This means i have 20+ Litres still available even though the DTE says i am at 0..
The reason for installing the LRT was to give better distance between fills when towing in remote areas.
Can anyone advise a solution?

I cant help with gauge calibration but be aware that the 20 l you say you have may be 20l in the tank but not all usable due to pick up height.

I have a bd tank as an extra in a landcruiser. I connected a pump to the pickup and pumped it until it sucked air.

So from there I measured in 20l, and I noted the gauge positon. Unless in trouble I will never go below that.

Now I will fill the tank and whatever i get in above the 20l in there now will be what i consider my real usable capacity.

Hi Guys,
As previously indicated in my earlier post i have about 20-25 L still in the tank when the DTE indicates 0. Ford have advised that the car will continue to run while there is fuel in the tank.
The installer has been advised by Brown Davis that they have installed correctly and there is nothing further they can advise.
I realize i can "guess" how much fuel should be in the tank and run until this calculation tells me to refuel.
Does anyone know a better way for me to proceed??
There must be some way of making the fuel in the tank and the fuel gauge become more aligned.

I'm just wondering what effect it would have if you reprogrammed the tank for an additional 10 or 15 litres? I realise the volume wouldn't be correct, but the 'system' would be calculating distance based on the extra fuel and may get you a bit closer?

Just a thought...

No programming will resolve your issue, the sender is bent incorrectly!!

Sender is a one wire analogue signal to the cluster.

Just a quick update on this topic.
When the DTE indicator reads 0 the car continues to run, at this point there would be about 20-25Lts still in the tank. The Ranger continues to run normally although the DTE gauge does become highlighted on startup indicting 0, this is reset with the ok button. After about 100kms the message "see manual" and the spanner symbol appear on the right-hand display, the Ranger then idles very rough and has no get up and go, the cruise control also does not work. The message is able to be reset but the spanner symbol is present beside the low fuel indicator.
Once you fill with fuel the Ranger then returns to "normal running condition".
Question - When i filled the Ranger it took 129Lts, so there would have been another 15 odd litres still available. Would Ford at a dealership (programming..) be able to change/modify the signal so that it ran for more than 100Kms after hitting 0??

The company who installed the tank advised they have done many of the Brown Davis installs and have bent the arm to Brown Davis instructions..

I checked with Ford, they thought it could be a program issue around low fuel but want me to check again next time the Ranger gets low on fuel if the same situation happens.. In the tank there was at least another 15 litres, this should be more than enough reserve for the sender to operate.
