Good day lads, I have recently bought a 2019 bi turbo Ranger Wildtrak.
I love the ute, but the 10speed gearbox is killing the fun.

I have seen BPT does a TCM for this box.

Anyone else done this as I am still very worried over the guarantee?

Thanx

I run TCM tune without a problem.

Each too their own but your gut is concerned about it, so simple, don't do it.

Thanx for that, but the driving pleasure is also not there.

If i can get confirmation that this actually make the box better, i will get it.

The last one that was done there was a Raptor. Client was most impressed and couldn't wipe the smile from his face. His comment "This is how it should have been from the factory".

Should be here in a day or two.
Will give feedback as soon as i can.

Goog Morning.

On Friday I recieved the TCM from BPT motorsport.
As i went through the nGAUGE i noticed that you get a choice between "mild", "Medium" and "MAX" for the transmission.
I decided to go "mild" just to start of with.
And this is where the "FUN" began.
As soon as i answered "YES" to the "Are you sure?" question, all the possible warning light came on one after the other.
I almost had a heart attack right there and then.
It was at this point, that i was pondering my life choices while had to go and change my underwear.
I decided to just let it run its course and hope for the best.(As i did not really have any other options to choose from).

5 min later a reset happened and all was back to normal.
Took it for a drive around the block and........

Hallelujah, that frustrating Skip 2nd and slip 3rd until lockup happens is gone.
It drives soo much better.
I have now flashed the "MAX" tune and it is Good.

For anyone that has the 10 speed Ranger and is not sure if you should.
Do it you will be very happy.

On a personal note, I have lost the ability to see which gear i am by pressing the gear select rocker switch (it now actually changes the gear)in D mode. That is something i would like to have personally. Have been in contact with BPT and they are looking into a possible solution.

Thanks for the info, I’m frustrated too. Did you order the deal for $1032 from here: https://www.bptmotorsport.com.au/produc ... kage-deal/

Cheers, Ian

To Karabash78, yes, I took that option. It took two days to be delivered to me in Adelaide.
I was nervous and skeptic as can be (as it is a LOT of money, and it is a brand new machine), but am now convinced i did the right thing, otherwise i probably would have gotten rid of the Ford. (Money well spent).
It is a sad thing that Ford does not give a crap about this, as the 2l Ranger is a really nice ute, letdown by a badly tuned gearbox.

On a side note, i have since experimented with all three tunes that comes with the package and have found the medium tune to be fantastic. It does everything it should have from the factory and quite smooth too.

There are however minor niggles with this package (probably my own personal niggles).
1. Lost the ability to monitor the current gear selection in D mode.
2. When cruising along n D mode the box does not shift up to the highest possible gear for fuel economy.

Both of these are currently being investigated by the boys at BPT motorsport for possible solutions.
I have found the communication with BPT to be exceptional, as i have been in contact with them from the start, and they have not failed to answer any of my questions and queries.

Thanks for that info lopjap.
This is something im very interested in however I would not want to loose the ability to monitor the current gear selection in D mode and I also see;
When cruising along n D mode the box does not shift up to the highest possible gear for fuel economy as being a problem.
I dont see these as personal niggles, they are a deal stopper in my mind.

Regarding how it drives: Does the tune get rid of the torque converter slip when taking off on a slight incline with not too much accelleration.
Mine seems to just slip for so long where i feel it could drive the car a bit more then change up. This slip is all these revs and power going to waste.
Its probably hard to explain what i mean other than it reminds me of a hi stall torque converter.

Please keep us informed regarding an update and fix to these two problems, once its fixed i may just bite the bullet and get this trans tune as well.

Just to clarify some points.
Even though the box with the tune will not select the next higher gear for fuel economy, you can manually tell it to do this.
While you lose the gear indicator you will gain the ability to manually swap gears in D mode by pressing the + and it will then go up a gear for fuel economy.(They are currently working on a solution to these issues, and i have been told it is not too far from being tested)

As to the slipping, it has been reduced and the tune also forces the box to use all gears.

I am currently reviewing the MAX setting of the tune and thus far i can say that it is a little less smooth but with considerably less slipping. As soon as i have come to a conclusion with the max setting i will be back and post a full review.

I’ve found that the mild tune will allow the gearbox to shift up to the top gears at highway speeds, and still be significantly better than factory, thankfully

Any further comments on the bpt tune on the bi turbo?

Have the issues mentioned in this thread been addressed?
