Hi Stewart,

I noticed on the 'other' forum that you applied TSB16-2080 (cold engine knock) yourself. I'm assuming one needs specialist software and/or files to do this and not something us mere mortals are able to perform at home? ;)

Mine is certainly doing the rattle on cold mornings and was going to request the TSB at the next service (7000km away though)...

Mine has a fair rattle on cold start as well. Thought it was just the "way it is". If there's an update for it I'll mention it when I take it in for the initial inspection service in a couple of weeks.

If these can be obtained and applied ourselves though I'd certainly be interested in the details.

EDIT: Oh and is there a way to tell with Forscan etc if a TSB has been applied?

You will need a Ford VCM II and Ford IDS software to do the updates. There was another update the other week btw.

The MY17 would have had the cold engine knock done. It was bad in the earlier years. Mine would sound like there were chains in the engine until it reached 40 degrees (Spot on 40) s it was the engine tune. On really cold morning you can still get more noise than the warmer mornings though so I would say unless you have chains then it is what it is.

Once Ford flash it you will find it will quiet down for a while anyway until it relearns how to be a little bit noisier.

In Forscan you have a list of modules and calibration numbers for each. Check you PCM calibration before and after going to Ford and they should be different if an update was performed.

Example. PCM I went from;

EB3G-12A650-BTK TO
EB3G-12A650-BTP

in February and the other week went from

EB3G-12A650-BTP TO
EB3G-12A650-BTR

Gerry just request that they do a PCM update on your next service. Start throwing TSM's around and they will probably do nothing.
