Hi All,

Been playing with the wifi hotspot and managed to make it work once with Bluetooth but quite fiddly.

Works easily to rebroadcast a hotspot from my phone, but that also defeats the purpose, might as well have the kids hotspot my phone.

I tried USB with phone - nothing. I tried a friends hotspot via USB. Nothing.
Spoke to Ford online, who told me that USB hotspot is disabled in Australia, but gave no reason.

I have my 45k service next week, so will ask then, but if they say no is this something that can be turned on with forscan?
I have permission to buy a unit, just waiting for my next overtime pay to hit :)

Plan is to have a USB stick modem, wired to an external car phone antenna for extra range. This will support kids homework on iPads when we do those big trips.

Thoughts / helpful suggestions?

Still not worth doing James. Just get one of the standard wireless hotspot dongles. Most offer an external antenna connection and will still accept clients even if the car is off. Most also have an internal battery so it can be used away from the vehicle, again with multiple clients.

A USB dongle just so your Sync system can be the host will limit you so much. If anything you will have less functionally running it that way. Let the device be the host and not sync.

There are so many options out there now.

Thanks for the feedback Stewart.
Will turn off the wifi hotspot and pick up one of the Telstra ones on a cheap 1GB plan and bundle the data with my phone to share it. Maybe mount in centre console or under dash so it's out of the way.

Thanks.

James.
