I've had a warning come up on my dash, stating there's a TPMS sensor malfunction for around 20,000 km now. It started about 6000km after I changed tyres/wheels, so not attributed to anything the tyre guy did.

I reported it at the 15,000 service and all they did was a system re-learn which did nothing. I left it until the 30,000km service (yesterday) and after I told them that there was definitely a crook sensor, all they did was another re-learn and charged me $22 for the privilege! Needless to say, 20km down the road... yep, same fault message.

Rang this morning and was told no warranty as the wheels and tyres had been changed, so it could have been the tyre fitter's fault. Then they quoted $120 just for me to buy a sensor!

My mechanic mate down the road can buy one for $80, he can fit it and I can re-learn it myself - I have the tool. I'm pretty sure I know which tyre it is as my Scangauge tells me my left rear tyre has 150psi in it... yeah, right!

Time to find another dealer. Might suss out the one in Loxton. I generally find that country businesses are a LOT more customer focused, so we shall see.

Just on my post above, assuming my sensors are actually in the correct corner of the car, is there a way to pinpoint the faulty sensor? Will forscan tell me if I look for dtc's before they disappear after I turn off the motor?

Have you reprogrammed the location of the wheels Gerry? If not then chance are they will be wrong. But I will assume as requested.

I don't think you see a DTC but you should at least not get further pressure readings from that sensor. So if 3 are going up and no the other then you will know, use your scangauge to confirm changes. Or try watching all the PIDs in Forscan in the BCM for TPMS and that may give you a clue.

I have changed what I believe is the faulty sensor but I'm not having a lot of luck retraining them.

I can get it into retraining mode (horn beep)and do the first wheel - left front and the horn beeps after about 20 - 30 seconds. However, I can't seem to get any others to respond. Is there a special spot or direction to hold the tool? I've tried all different ways. Maybe I'm missing something?

Cheers

Gerry, my dealer sells the genuine sensor for $61.

If you ever need stuff and I can help let me know.

No trouble to get it and send it up.

Thanks Ross, that's a good price, but my problem is trying to get them activated. I can get the first one but not the others. :(

OK, I just realised that I probably need to go for a drive somewhere and wake the sensors up. If they're anything like me, I take a long time to wake up after being asleep for a while.

If that doesn't work... I'll be back... 8-)

yeah, well I'm back. Still can't get past number 1 tyre, even after a 5km run at 100 kph.

Should I try them out of sequence? Maybe I replaced the wrong one?

I don't know much but can you reset them all and start from scratch?

Would that help find the bad one?

That's actually what I'm trying to do - reset them all. I've replaced what I believe was the bad one so now just need to re-learn them all.

I see you have a tool to do it with, never seen one as yet.

I use the setting in the dash, I have to reset it when I change from 18psi on the beach to 35psi on the road.

I just went out to try again and realised that the horn beeps I get at number one wheel is the car telling me that retraining has failed. So it seems my activation tool in't working - the light comes on (but no-one's home). :(

Bummer, what now?

Just read Stewart's post regarding this and I was going to order the tool.

But as they keep all your details I didn't bother, a pity they don't have PayPal.

OK, problem solvered... LOL

After receiving some great tips from Stewart, I removed my mobile from my pocket and left it on the work bench, unplugged my Scangauge, turned off my rear view screen and unplugged my dashcam and tried again. This time it all worked perfectly and all wheels are now successfully retrained!

I'm not sure which of these precautions did the trick, but there was obviously interference from one or more of these devices. It all works on a 433 MHz wireless signal, so any interference can mess with the communication. A real trap for young players methinks!

Cheers

Unfortunately the saga continues. Still getting the Sensor Malfunction message and the tyre error light. This time I plugged in Forscan without turning off the car and there's a DTC B124D:02-8A in the BCM relating to the TPMS.

I logged the TPMS stuff and it appears it is still coming from the same sensor I changed last week. Crazy thing is all sensors are reading pressures and pressure changes OK. I know the sensors are logged into their proper locations and the last couple of errors definitely came from that same, replaced sensor.

I've reset and relearned them all again, just in case it didn't relearn properly last time, so I guess we will see next time I take it for a run?

Running out of ideas here... :(

Throw out whatever is interfering with the signal. What was the actual error? Pretty sure it's to do with the signal. Something has changed, something is interfering with the signal. UHF on or off? Try and isolate the faulty item.

Thanks Stewart,

so where exactly is the receiving antenna located? That might give me a clue?

I can try turning stuff off, like rear view screen/mirror, dashcam, HUD GPS speed display, Scangauge. Hope it's not my phone... :( I have a Redarc BCDC1240 in the rear tub, but hopefully that ain't it cos it keeps my auxiliary battery charged which = cold beer.

I'll have a play. It's been like it for a long time though.

Cheers

No, it's a wifi signal at 433Mhz between the sensors and antenna connected to BCM.

Would this be worth a try.

Leave the phone home and remove/disconnect anything in the car that may cause interference.

Drive some ks from home, preferably away from a phone tower and do the training there.

If it still fails then that would suggest it maybe a vehicle problem.

Then it becomes a process of elimination.

Maybe you still have a faulty sensor.

Have you upgraded from Sync2 to Sync3?

As the problem has been there a while did it start happening about the same time?

No doubt it's just an FM signal at 433Mhz. Antenna is under the roof lining, about 200mm off centre to the right from memory.

You may be able to work it out a little easier. Try programming them in again with nothing off and phone where you had it last time. Did it fail again? No doubt it won't this time, but if programming did then you can turn off a device at a time and find the cause without going anywhere.

Gerry,
Head up out past Paringa, Chuck a right 5km out from Customs House, bash through the Orchard, pull up on the Lindsay River, try resetting the sensors there,,,No chance of conflicting 433Mhz any where within coohooeee,,,Agh sorry,,thats how i reset myself!!!

In reality what is not passing around on 433Mhz anywhere a population exists, as mentioned by Saeb and Ross,,Wireless 2.4 GHz over 11 channels, 5Ghz over 23 channels, Cellular, microwaves, alien messages from space, Big Daves Rabbits in Karoonda, not surprised you cant set them in Karoonda!!
Let us know how it pans out.
