On my Auto 2.2 Ranger XLS (PX2), the constant "transmission not in park" chime is very annoying when one turns the ignition off in N, for example at a wildlife sighting, is there a Forscan code to turn this chime off?

If I change the 3 to a 0 I get a checksum error

You will always get a checksum error unless you enter th correct checksum. Please read the warning in full as it will recalculate.
PM me your VIN or saved IPC abt file.

OK, have sent VIN. I changed the 3 to a 0 (0300 to 0000), when I read it again it had changed to 00FD and the chime is still present.

I have never tried to remove it so this may get rid of chime or maybe the telltale or may be for the opposite reason and remove either or on start only.
These changes are based on your VIN
From
720-02-02 xxxx-x3xx
to
720-02-02 xxxx-x2xx
You could also try this instead as it should turn off all the chimes. Keep in mind this may also affect other warnings chimes.
720-01-01 xxxx-xxx0-xxxx
to
720-01-01 xxxx-xxx6-xxxx
Hopefully one or the other will get you sorted as there is nothing specific in the IPC related to your request. We could possibly tell the IPC it is a manual but the chime may be being pushed by the PCM or TCM.

Tried x3xx, x2xx, x1xx and x0xx but no change in the chime.
However 720-01-01 xxxx-xxx6-xxxx turned all chimes off which is just fantastic! What a relief, thank you Stewart, made my Ranger experience just so much better!

I spoke too soon, it seemed to be off but checking again it's not. If I turn off the engine in N then the chime sounds, if I open the door in N it sounds, grrr

Went back and tried it all again but no luck, I can't get either that chime or all chimes to turn off.
Any other ideas?

I see no other options that relate to this in the IPC.
Lets try changing it to a manual cluster.
Change IPC 720-03-02 to x2xx-xxxx
You will lose the PRNDS from below the speedo and it will affect a few other options.
If this does not work then the next thing you could do is cover the speaker on the back of the cluster to make it quieter. Image of black round speaker, right of image below. Take the back off the cluster, cover speaker with some sound deadener from under your firewall carpet, put back together and done.
or probably the easiest and best as it will only affect the "not in park" is the hack I just tested below.
Or pin 7 on the cluster is the transmission control switch, park detect. So I have tested this and it works perfectly. Tap into the wire and earth it, that will resolve the your issue and IPC will never give the fault or chime again. Best place to locate to wire is down at the drivers kick panel. Big white plug with the orange wire I have hanging from is pin 32 ( Green/Orange).
At the end of the day it is just another analogue input like oil pressure and the fuel gauge so a mechanical bypass is more than acceptable.
Enjoy

Thank you again Stewart, the pin 32 to ground worked wonderfully, that infernal racket now banished forever!

I found one issue you may have. You may need to put a switch on this and not wire directly.
It looks like it also is going through the 4x4 switch so being that the vehicle will only change to 4x4 in park you may never get it to work. Putting a switch in line with the bypass wire will allow you to revert back to stock, engage 4x4 then switch it off again to get rid of the chimes.

Thanks Stuart, I just spent 2 weeks in the bush in Botswana in heavy sand and deep water crossings and can confirm 4x4 works perfectly and there is (wonderfully) no chime.
